Whew, I was worried it would be full of white people. Glad to see those honkies were removed.

Dune is now a safe space.

Wrong take.

Dune is one of those properties that this should be natural. Lord of the Rings? No. Dune, yes.

Yes, Please.

When I was at LSU I took Science Fiction with Ms. Paine my senior year. Took it for fun, but it was the hardest English class I ever took--10 novels, mid-term and final, plus a "project".

My project was a short film called "Mr. Bill Goes to Dune". Filmed it in the old LSU golf course sand traps. Got chased off by the greenskeeper more than once. Of course, he gets eaten by a sand worm in the end.

At what point did the first movie end?

If you're talking about the Lynch film, it ends at the same point the first Dune book ends.

The 2021 film is supposed to end halfway through the book, which would require a sequel. The rumors I've seen say the movie ends rather abruptly after Paul and Jessica meet the Fremen.

As long as it's consistently cast, which it appears to be. There's one change there I hate though.

I'm guessing he means changing Liet Kynes to a woman. I hate that too.

Yeah, this is probably the blunder.

And if I don’t get the second half because people are too stupid to go see/appreciate a great movie (BR2049) I’ll riot.

It really makes no sense. Every woman in the Dune Universe is a strong character. There really was no need to sex change Kynes, other than to score woke points.

Why? If I were making a list of characters I could remove from the adaptation to avoid character bloat, Kynes would be pretty high up on that list. I'm sure they could find another device or more important character to illustrate how well the Atriedes family can instill loyalty.

But that's not what they did. Also, it would be pretty difficult for the new character to be Chani's father.

I was thinking something similar. Also, when I saw Mamoa was Idaho, I was sort of surprised. I don't really remember him being in the story all that much. He is spoken of by others. I guess having 2 movies will allow them to expand his part.

Also, I could be forgetting things he did early in the book. In books with lots of characters, it takes me a while to get names lined up.

It actually looks like they are going to expand the part. So recast it as a woman, make it more important, etc. Which will maybe de-value another character, man or woman. That's the problem.

It's better than turning a main character into a different gender.

Look, I'm behind diverse casting from a race/social aspect. As long as the worldbuilding in the original property supports such a thing (see the LOTR's elves of color - not supported by the lore). In this case, most of the racial changes are fine, and maybe even desired.

I'm never behind gender swaps. There's no reason for it, most good world-building includes gender roles and other things that make the world feel fully created, etc. It's a different world, with different norms, for a reason. Leave that stuff alone.

Just watched the old movie last week. Is Feyd Rautha still a secret? Anyone have a good guess who it will be?

If they do have Feyd, he won't show up until the 2nd movie... if there is a 2nd movie.
