I stumbled on a dude on YT using chicken breast and had never heard of that before. Digging a little further, I found another dude that puts something called Anise on his (smells like licorice).

It's too damn hot to bass fish so wtf, lets go catch some kitties.

What you got?

Live bream or perch with an ambassador 6500 and a 7.5 foot heavy rod.

Damn, there are way too many cheaper and more effective baits for catfish than the breast of a chicken. This is a simple fish to catch. Don’t over think it.

For jugs and trot lines have had good results with chicken hearts soaked in red kool-aid and fresh cut bait. Also have had great success with ivory soap on trot lines under the right conditions.

For rod and reel, good old earth worms.

This, but I use an Ambassador 5500C (gifted to me back in 1975 still smooth as silk)

I'll use cut bream, shad or Secret 7 punch bait on a pole. For floating jug lines I like cheap chicken thighs on sale. Cut them up and put them on a circle hook.

Cut shad or catalpa worms for blue cats, live perch for flatheads.

Not over thinking it, I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with chicken.

I have seen where people use kool-aid but I haven't tried it. And, breasts aren't that expensive. Aldi has them for $1.69/# all the time.

Edit: I usually use hot dogs on jugs and shad or small bream on trot lines.

Damn things bite on plastics these days... not the catfish you are looking for though...

Oh, worms and crickets work wonders.

I’ve always caught bigger cats on trot lines. Fresh shad and perch are the best baits I’ve always had luck on.

Ran out of worms the other day and used the ham out the ice chest. Worked great. Hotdogs or Vienna weenie. Worms. Chicken of any kind. Shad.

Rod and reel. Chum with dry dog food and Ol Roy cans on a stringer. Get a good chum line going and those sumbitches will bite on just about anything.

ETA: I fish mostly at night from the bank for catfish.

On trotline -- Crawfish (catch with net)
Rod/Reel -- chicken hearts and parts, worms.

Heck any stinking cheap meat will due.

I've tried chicken breast before with no real success while fishing for cats on the Mississippi River. I buy split breasts on sale for $.99 a lb. and get 5 cuts off a breast for bait and put that on circle hooks.

My best go-to bait for cats has consistently been live perch followed by cut bait using dead fish like shad or pogeys.

I've also caught cats on fresh shrimp market bait and earthworms, but they are generally smaller than the ones caught on live bait.

I use a Penn Battle II with a 7 ft. Ugly Stick and 30 lb. mono line and depending on the flow of the river, either a 3 or 4 oz. sinker with a loop tied for a hook about 3 ft. up from the sinker. I cast upriver so by the time the line sets bottom it is pretty much right in front of me.

Chicken livers have always worked, if you can get them to stay on the hook..

Rod and reel = bag of frozen gumbo shrimp and fill the ice chest.
Trot line= sliced hot dogs fried black (so they stay on hook better).

Make liver balls. Take some old pantyhose that women no longer wear, cut them in about 3 inch lengths, tie a knot in one end, fill it with chicken liver and tie the other end in a knot. This allows you to run a hook through the hose and keeps the liver together. I use large circle hooks.

Without something like this, the liver just falls off, often when casting.

Yeah, I've known about the panty hose trick for a long time. My grandpa taught it to me and he died in 1978. I normally only fish for them once a year with the kid and his cousins back home on the east coast. I'm just too lazy to do it. lol.

But you're 100% right, that's the way to do it. Never got skunked on liver.

When cleaning catfish caught around our duck place, I've seen paintballs in their stomach that we were shooting. Don't overthink it.
