Edit - I changed this a to include favorite super groups, though the original post was on ones that people didn't know existed. Both are interesting topics.

In regards to one I never knew existed, I was reading an article on Cheap Trick and ran across a reference to a band called Tinted Windows. I had never heard of them.

"Tinted Windows were an American rock supergroup formed by guitarist James Iha of The Smashing Pumpkins, singer Taylor Hanson of Hanson, Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne and Ivy, and Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick. The band issued one album in 2009, and performed live in 2009 and 2010. Josh Lattanzi also often performed with the band as the second guitarist."

Interesting line up with talented musicians. I'm surprised they never made more than one album.

Tinted Windows

Others?

I use to only associate Hansen with mmm bop and figured they were just another record company created kids group with limited talent. In reality they were and are pretty talented. I'm not saying that as a huge Hansen fan, but as one who has gone down the youtube rabbit hole a few times and found some good music by them. It's not my intention to turn this into a Hansen defender thread, but they are more talented that most realize.

French, Frith, Kaiser, Thompson was an English/American experimental rock quartet comprising John French, Fred Frith, Henry Kaiser and Richard Thompson. The band was formed in 1987 to create an album, Live, Love, Larf & Loaf. In 1990 they recorded their second album, Invisible Means, and performed live in Berkeley, California to promote this album.

John French is an American drummer and member of Captain Beefheart's Magic Band. He contributed to several Beefheart albums, including 1969's Trout Mask Replica.

Fred Frith is one of the founding members of the English avant-rock group Henry Cow. He was also a member of the groups Art Bears, Massacre, and Skeleton Crew. He has collaborated with a number of prominent musicians, including Robert Wyatt, Derek Bailey, the Residents, Lol Coxhill, John Zorn, Brian Eno, Mike Patton, Lars Hollmer, Bill Laswell, Iva Bittová, Jad Fair, Kramer, the ARTE Quartett, and Bob Ostertag.

Henry Kaiser has appeared on more than 300 albums and scored dozens of TV shows and films including Werner Herzog's Encounters at the End of the World He was nominated for a Grammy Award for his work on the Beautiful Dreamer tribute to Stephen Foster. He is the grandson of industrialist Henry J. Kaiser.

Richard Thompson first gained prominence in the late 1960s as the lead guitarist and songwriter for the folk rock group Fairport Convention, which he had co-founded in 1967. He has released a total of eighteen solo studio albums. Three of his albums—Rumor and Sigh (1991), You? Me? Us? (1996), and Dream Attic (2010)—have been nominated for Grammy Awards.

Kaiser is a farce, he can’t play guitar, has no talent whatsoever. Most of the projects he is credited on happened because he paid for them. He is considered a joke among professional musicians. Apparently artists like Andy West let him corrupt their projects because he fronts the cash that keeps them eating. His videos on you tube are so bad it’s painful.
