Sorta. During the beginning stages of the pandemic, I was all over local Facebook pages, begging people not to believe the bullshite and come and visit our area (Orange Beach/GS). Several random people from all over America found my business pages on Google, Yelp, and Facebook and began leaving bad reviews. I haven’t been on social media in over a year since.

Heck, I don’t think I would survive the “Did you post on company time investigation.”

Did you find another job or did they blacklist you in the industry.

I've had a hard time finding a job, but I just think its because the senior level positions I have been interviewing for are really competitive. People think that having 10 years of experience like I do on a resume makes job searching easier, but its the opposite, because that means you will be applying for high paying senior level jobs and in order for someone to pay you that kind of salary they will fully vet you before investing that kind of coin in employing you. You have to do several rounds of interviews and if just one person doesn't like one thing you said, poof you're done. It's all luck.

I also am greatly missing the on site panel interview. I've always had a lot of success when I actually meet those interviewing me in person because I am so good at working a room and allowing my presence and energy to sell myself. These virtual interviews take that away from me.

I am not looking for anything in television or media, though. I am done with that industry. It's a cancer that I no longer want to be a part of. It made me sick working in that industry. I specialize in data science, market research, and analytics, so I can do that in other industries. I've interviewed for all kinds of fields over the last 3 months. Sadly there is a lot of snobbery from those who interview me which don't believe my skills can transfer outside of media for some reason.

Maybe you shouldn’t post personal information on reddit? You must either be very old and tech illiterate or extremely careless/naive.

The "tolerant" left strikes again. But you're best off not working in that dying business. I gave up on media two decades ago--it was bad then. Can't imagine what it's like today. The friends I still have on the inside are miserable.

I justified it by saying local news is different than national network or cable news. And it was, at first. But Trump caused that to no longer be the case and then local news was infected with TDS and became indistinguishable from national news.

An anchor I worked with in Cedar Rapids, IA, Ashley Hinson, is now a Republican congresswomen for Iowa's 1st district. I've noticed that the anchors lean conservative because they are fine with being anchors, because they care more about issues that matter in the community instead of politics, and don't have aspirations to be Washington DC correspondents for a national news bureau. To accomplish that you have to be a dyed in the wool leftist.

That's how it is in a news station. News Director, Producers, Assignment Editors, Marketing, Promotions, Social Media, and the Journalists/Reporters are leftists. The anchors are center or right. Sales staff are right wingers.

That's what it said on her fb. The original person that got me fired up was a tranny who is black, that said blacks cannot be racist. That individual is on a school board in a decent sized town that's a shithole. Then this chick jumped in because I put a tranny meme

News media is the only industry where the customer is always wrong.

The MAIN part of my job the last 7 years was market research, market intelligence, audience research, consumer engagement. AKA getting a finger on the pulse of the market, what they wanted in a news product, what they liked, what they hated, and using that to strategize our news and sales operations.

I remember conducting a whole weeks worth of focus groups and EVERY panel that I focus grouped had their main complaint that we were too biased and too negative. I divided our panels into various socio-economic and demographic factors. The ONLY subgroup that didn't tell us that we were biased were wealthy white women. Every other group, even black women, said we were too politically biased with too much negative coverage about Trump. They all wanted to see more local news, more positive stories, and less national political punditry.

So in the post mortem after that, our news director and assistant news director basically dismissed the findings. So we spent $20k on focus grouping for what? To just dismiss the widely shared opinion that we were too biased and focused too much coverage on national anti Trump stories instead of local coverage?

News departments are so out of touch its insane, and then they don't listen to people like me that they pay 6 figures to research the marketplace and give them opinion audits.

Many times companies will ask “Would you hire this person again?”

My most recent company would say no, and I could see that being a reason I am not getting offers. Not because I did a bad job - I created and led a department from the ground up, but because they had a personal vendetta.

The previous 3 employers would all give a resounding yes.

I was careful. They found out who I was because on /r/cfb I had mentioned I played football at TCU and was active in the /r/sandiego subreddit at the time. Probably didn't take them long to be able to find a TCU grad who played football living in San Diego on LinkedIn.

I did do this, actually. The number of interviews I have been able to get has exploded. I've interviewed with 22 different companies in the last 2 weeks. I am still having a hard time closing the deal.

This past week I had a company reject me after making the final round because the take home assignment I was given and completed, was "too good". They were going to offer me, but instead wanted to schedule one more 30 minute call, which I hop on and was berated for the entire 30 minutes about my motives, how I was over qualified, too good for the role, and had to justify myself as to why I would not get bored in the role, wouldn't be a flight risk and jump for a better job after only a few months, etc. etc.

I had another company in which I made the final panel interview for. I decided to withdraw because I just wasn't sure if the role was the right fit for me in terms of my capabilities. The interview required me building a 45 minute presentation(which is a lot of work) and I was just not feeling the role enough to justify me spending that amount of time on a project, especially because I was juggling other take home assignments for roles I felt like I was a better fit for. I let the recruiter know this and they practically begged me to still interview anyway, even offering to up my salary ask by $20k and not having to do the presentation. So I go ahead and still interview, and they ghost me. Why did they beg me to interview if they were going to just ghost me afterward?

You can't win with these people.

No... that was money well spent. Now they know how much MORE they need to ramp up the anti-Trump stories. There are still people not buying the narrative yet!

Someone got offended when I stated on FB that Hilary Clinton should drown in a pool of AIDS. They called my old office to complain. My former supervisor called me laughing to tell me about it. He told the woman, "Do you mean the guy that retired 8 months ago? He's not our problem anymore. Have fun with him."

This is what the news director in San Diego told me.

Her actual words:

"We know that 50% won't watch us no matter what. We need to instead focus on retaining the audience who does watch us instead of trying to win back the MAGA fake news crowd who hate us and believe things like the media is the enemy of the people".
