In January 2020 during the sham impeachment I was on reddit posting on /r/politics in support of Trump and against the impeachment. Those on reddit were able to find out who I was in real life and organized a doxxing campaign against me and the TV station I worked at at the time was flooded with calls disparaging me. Their main angle of attack was not my pro-Trump/anti-impeachment posts, but they went through my post history all the way back to 2018 and used my pro-Kavanaugh posts and posts questioning the credibility of Christine Blasey Ford as their ammunition against me.

HR pulled me into their office and suspended me for a week to "do an investigation". After the investigation they found I did not make any of those posts on company time, and I was not fired but put on probation for 90 days. Not because anything I said was bad, but because they wanted to "teach me a lesson" about online anonymity. Secretly I wondered if the shoe would be on the same foot if I had been making pro-democrat posts, but I was grateful to not be fired.

This really pissed off a bunch of people at the station who wanted me fired. For hours that day our newsroom was fielding calls about me, being berated non stop about why they employed a misogynist, racist, Trump supporter. Of course the left leaning newsroom employees wanted me fired. When I wasn't fired a lot of them were very mad and all of a sudden I was enemy #1 to the newsroom.

Anyway it was never the same at the station after that. I was ostracized, shunned and looked down upon. COVID could not have come at a better time since I didn't have to deal with those assholes in person anymore.

In December 2020 the company I worked for came out of nowhere and said they were ending my employment, but they paid me out the remainder of my contract($48,000), plus an additional 25% contingent on not taking any legal action. They wanted me gone so much they paid me a $60k lump sum on my way out. Which was weird since I was doing a really good job in the role, was getting rave performance reviews, and we were understaffed - losing my production would have been a big blow to the department I headed up that was already stretched very thin. I didn't really understand why I was bought out, but I have speculated that it could have been because I was a known Trump supporter, hence the 25% "bribe" that I could only get if I signed a waiver stating I would not partake in legal action.

Is that hindering your job search now if they call your past employer? Talk about having a good suit on your hands if you could prove it.

If all of this is true sounds like you came out a winner.

Not having to work with leftist arseholes on a daily basis and a lump sum payment on the way out to boot.

I'd take that deal any day.

Sure makes job hunting easier when you've already been paid for half a year or more.

Did you find another job or did they blacklist you in the industry.

I would be worried if I took a deal for a good bit of money that I wouldn’t be able to get another job in my industry.

Due to this fear I have decided if this happens to me I will stay and fight with a lawyer if I had to.

I think you should tell us the station’s name.

The "tolerant" left strikes again. But you're best off not working in that dying business. I gave up on media two decades ago--it was bad then. Can't imagine what it's like today. The friends I still have on the inside are miserable.

Sounds like one of the most important lessons here is don't use reddit.

I'm in Texas.

I work for Company that I'm guessing is 75 percent red.

The board of directors is 100 let's guys 80 to 90 percent red.

If people doxxed me and said I was a Trump supporter, the response would be thank God he is.

This is really kind of a newer phenomenon. Way back when, when I first started posting on LSU message boards (back in the days of TigerRoar) most people there were pretty upfront about who they were irl. Regulars would post photos of themselves and family, etc. Even though the board at the time was wide arse open, which meant there were routinely "fights" between LSU fans and everyone LSU played, no one ever even considered trying to get personal and literally find someone and try to ruin their life.

I actually have to try and be cognizant of this fact while posting here.

Yes, ended up being the best laugh I’ve had in a while.

Soyboy demanded to have my employers number which I gladly gave. He called and proceeded to tell the person who answered how I was a sorry white racist, sexist, nazi and should be fired. Well then my wife (I’m self employed, no pics) proceeded to tell him all the different ways he could frick himself.....

Yeah its nice not to worry about that stuff. It's hilarious how everyone tells me they love my comments on social media. I'm like, thanks SEC Rant

I wish these frickers would doxx me. I work for myself and nobody knows who my clients are. I will gladly tell my boss and let him make the call on what to do with me. I think I would give myself a big fat arse raise for having to put up with bullshite from progressives. So with that said. Bring it on you pussies

I've never had any social media outside of my LinkedIn and YouTube channel, but I've scrubbed all videos I had on my YouTube that would have hinted of any such thing.

My job search has been weird. I keep making it to the final round of interviews only to be told they are going with someone else. I have a spreadsheet and I've made it to 17 final rounds in the last 3 months and only one offer, which I declined because the CEO was not optimistic about the long term health of the organization. You think I would be filtered out before getting that far if they had any reservations about my political beliefs.

My cousin is a recruiter and has access to background check software and he runs it on me all the time to let me know if any red flags come up, but I come up 100% clean despite my April arrest(which my lawyer is working to dismiss entirely).

I've also been told that when contacted, previous employers are not legally allowed to disclose anything apart from whether or not you were employed in the role you said you were employed in, and how long you were employed there. If they want more detail that's what references are for, and I will only give references out that I know will vouch for me.

I don't think people understand how much disdain those who work at TV stations have for the average person.

I worked in TV for 10 years. I could write a book. It's a shame because there are a lot of good people in the industry(mostly on the sales side) but the news side is a cancer.

I have nothing but good to say about the sales employees I worked with. Shame they have to sell such a crappy product.

I wish the idiots on the OT understood this who always give me a hard time about being out of work. I got the $60k lump sum in addition to the savings I already had in the bank. I have enough money to live on for multiple years if I really wanted to, but I have bigger financial ambitions which is why I want to get back to work. But its nice knowing I won't run out of money.

News media is the only industry where the customer is always wrong.

I'm glad I worked in the industry. It opened my eyes to a lot of things.

Many times companies will ask “Would you hire this person again?”

I’m not sure if it is legal or not but I’ve been asked before.

Good luck on your job search.
