The above-displayed meme was inaccurate. California did not tell “everyone” not to charge their electric cars. In reality, residents were asked to charge their cars at a time other than when the energy supply was limited.

Urging Californians to charge their electric vehicles in advance of peak power demand hours in not the same as asking California citizens to avoid charging electric vehicles.

California’s power grid operators have called on residents to not use as much electricity so as to put less strain on the state’s beleaguered grid.
California residents should buy gasoline run generators to charge their cars...lol.

Go green with the electric cars and solar power grids, then realize you can’t charge cars at night lmao

What the thread title states is not what happened here, the thread title leaves out pretty key details, obviously for shock value and you fell for it.

Hasn't there been a bunch of people here claiming EV's won't have any effect on the power distribution system?

Yay, green!!!
It's the new Dark Ages, with the obvious exception being that now we actually have the knowledge but think it's dumb to use it.
Regressives, folks. Gotta love 'em.
Meanwhile, here in WNC it was too cold this morning for me to have my coffee on the screened-in porch. Love that climate change.

So they want people to buy electric cars so they don’t use gasoline but they don’t want people to charge their electric cards because they don’t want to them to use electricity.
Liberalism in a nutshell.

But...the OP/article title was made for shock value, the actual quote about EVs is not what the OP thread title says. They did not say to not charge your cars, they said not to charge during peak hours. Again, see above, that is still shitty, but it's not at all what the OP's title suggests, he did that I'm sure intentionally to trick people and make it sound way worse than it is already is, which is unnecessary since it's already shitty.
And further, the entire issue going in California and Texas is not about EVs. Even in the OP's article, it discusses trimming back usage and/or usage during peak hours across all items that use electricity, EVs just happen to be one of these.

I won’t defend how jacked up my state is. But I do get to laugh at these idiots. I live close to three hospitals and because of that it is against the rules to turn off the power where I’m at. The blackouts that would happen here would mostly be in the poorer central and southern parts of town, lol. So I get to keep my thermostat where I want it and use whatever energy draining appliances no matter the hour and the poor people go without their AC. That’s California for you.
Now consider that being able to use your AC and appliances whenever you like is actually worth bragging about here. This state is so broken.

Telling me when to charge my car is the same thing as telling me not to charge my car.....I can fill my gas tank up round the clock

Over night I'm pretty sure is what their "Peak usage" is referring to.
Charge in the AM...from what I understand these cars take hours to charge. I guess if you don't have a job to drive to you could charge in the AM.
I will concede though that the type of person to have an Electric car in California is probably more likely to have a job that lets them work remotely if needed, especially in these "covid times".
On a side note, a lot of these city liberals that like to go on about electric cars...they don't realize just how many miles you could potentially need to drive in a day if you don't live in an urban city.
I grew up where I would consider anything from a 30 min to 1hr drive a "quick commute". I've talked to city people who's idea of a quick drive is 10 mins. They can't even fathom needing to drive an hour to get somewhere. (But yet OK with 1-2hr bus / subway trips)
If I'm only going to be driving in a city and I had money to burn I could see using an electric car to get around but if I need to travel anywhere with some real mileage I'm using a gas powered car.

The irony is rich in this. It's like Calif karma ran over their dogma.

Thanks for that.
I lived in California in the 90's...it's crazy to see how downhill it's gone. (But believable with it's current policies)
I saw the other night a street I'm very familiar with just filled with homeless tents. Recognizing the exact street elevated the horror of the situation to another level for me.
