re: DIY Speed Bump

Posted by gaom23 on 3/12/25 at 9:01 am to
A little late to this thread but wanted to share.

Last year the city put in a new speed bump on the road in front of our place. Pretty big bump too.

They also didn't mark it at all with warnings or road paint etc.

For 2 months after installations I would hear cars all day and night taking the speed bump way too fast, getting air, and landing hard and scratching or outright breaking off pieces of their car.

At night, the speed bump was basically invisible.

Really insane that they installed a speed bump then didn't put markings until months afterward.

The two cops not identifying themselves was pretty dumb as well. I can allow this if they intentionally were trying to hide they were cops due to their dirty dealings, but so far that has not been established.

You only watched the first episode or also the 2nd episode? Because from just that scene, my take away was they're either crooked cops or it was a sting and they were reluctant to declare themselves cops.

By end of episode 2 though it should leave no doubt they're crooked.

Though now that begs the question why didn't the crooked cop just shoot the guy instead of arresting him. I get that there are probably subway cameras but I feel like if he shot immediately after the other cop got hit by the train, he could try to justify "heat of the moment".
4D Chess.

Tell everyone it was a prank, meanwhile keep leaving the truck there.

People get complacent, or perhaps even gather more to "confront" the prankster.

Then bam, 100 agents pop out of nowhere and scoop them all up.
Really cringy, I couldn't even sit through the entire skit.

My comment wasn't to judge on how well or badly the crime reduction is going tied to Trump being in office, only that NYC is being quick to take a victory lap when things are still quite terrible.

I use the mass transit the minimal amount needed and basically only to commute to work. And yet I still encounter plenty of violence that largely goes unreported in the news.

Both stabbings I witnessed I never saw anything about it ever hit the evening news, even when 1 had NYPD respond to the scene rather quickly.

They really need to bring the hammer down hard on the criminals here, no mercy.
It's a start but I was witness to 2 stabbings in the subway over the past 3 months.

The fact that they specified shootings makes me think stabbings haven't stopped.

re: Until Dawn the movie!

I'm disappointed it won't follow the original story but if I forget it's called "Until Dawn", the trailer looked interesting.
I remember someone the other day on here made a joke about getting the old man smell out of the White House.

With how rare Biden was actually at the White House, there probably wasn't much to clean up.
I think the movie has several problems.

I'm not as familiar with the comic version as I was a pretty casual comic fan.

But as far as the MCU has set up, while also being an avenger, Captain America's either officially or unofficially a member of the U.S. armed forces.

You're telling me the U.S. government is going to have a guy with no super serum be Capt. America when you have 2 other choices that do have a form of the serum?

And if you insist on Falcon being Capt. America, then I feel like the first thing the U.S. Gov. would do is hit him up with the serum.

No serum Falcon VS Hulk is not compelling at all. I would highly expect that he gets the serum in this movie, but if he doesn't then he must pull a win out of his arse with some non-sensical B.S..

I saw this clip elsewhere earlier this morning without sound or context. (someone linked it to me)

At first I thought the joke was that the subtitles weren't catching the words correctly.

I then re-watched it with sound to my amazement....
I also thought it looked photo shopped at first glance lol.

From the subject line I thought Zelensky was going to be in a suite or something. I guess business casual is still a big step up for him though.

I mean... isn't that the best time to do it to keep collateral damage to a minimum?

Also easier to grab if you know where they stay at night.

Lol what is this Highlander? Church sacred ground and no fighting?
Thank you for the link, it was a pretty good interview for Trump I think.

I ended up looking up the full interview and was pleasantly surprised how often he seemed to get the crowd on his side.

I'm assuming the crowd was also invited and curated by the host so I would have assumed a hostile crowd.

The interviewer certainly wasn't hiding his bias.
My local Wallgreens was a tinier "pharmacy only" type, no groceries.

Always took extra time to fill prescriptions, arguments about if our insurance covered something or not.

Never saw any theft issues. Never "packed" but usually not empty either so they should have been doing fine.

All of a sudden they closed shop last year. Supposed reason was "slow business".

Next nearest pharmacy is like 30 mins away from our neighborhood.

6 months later 2 different Pharmacies open up, 1 of them in the exact same spot as Wallgreens. Both doing just fine it seems so not sure what Wallgreen's strategy is.

I don't go to any of those though, I found a family owned one that is much better. Has what I need already in stock, and fills prescriptions way faster.

I can leave my kid's Dr. and walk across the street and they already have it filled and ready to pick up.

Never realized how much difference there could be in service, just assumed they all made you wait.

They keep acting like the push back that they don't like is in the minority.

Paraphrasing: "The vocal minority etc etc"

But if that were true, the show would succeed anyway despite the backlash online.

Because of Hollywood movies, I honestly thought the secret service details would be bigger.

They're saying the "bigger" detail for Jill Biden was 12.

I feel like 12 would still not be enough for a former President and presumptive current nominee at a big public speaking engagement.

I understand that they may supplement numbers with local law enforcement but would still think at least 20+ of actual SS agents.

re: Biden officially out

I'm also late to the party.

I heard there were rumors and rumblings of Biden dropping out but I didn't think he'd actually go through with it, let alone on a Sunday and not a weekday.

I typically tune out political news on the weekends to give myself a break and then we get two weekends in a row of crazy news.

Both times my wife ended up telling me and I thought she was BSing me.

Aren't they already past certain states deadlines for changing the nominee or something?
This show is only 8 episodes of 30 mins.

As far as history of TV seasons go, it's on the shorter end.

And yet they keep having these scenes that drag things out that seem to be just for padding the run time.

If you didn't have an interesting story to tell then just don't tell it to begin with.

There's only 2 episodes to go and I feel like barely any story has been told so far.
Americans shocked that people known for valuing life cheap, act like life is cheap, news at 11.

I didn't click the link but I hope the girl is able to pull through...
They wont learn until things like this keep happening.

Just because you think the world is Kumbaya, doesn't change the fact that there are people out there who are evil and won't change their stripes just because you "gave them the chance they needed".

But it still makes me sad as well as pissed off to see these headlines.
