Buckhead is a wealthy part of Atlanta with a lot of nicer shopping and a large commercial district.

This is in contrast to the unincorporated community of St. George in Louisiana - which is not in any way, shape, or form part of the city of Baton Rouge. Despite that, the city of Baton Rouge is busy filing lawsuits to prevent St. George from incorporating into its own city.

quote:

Buckhead, a portion of Atlanta, Georgia, is looking to break free from the rest of a city in rapid decline. After decades of increased safety that started ahead of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, it took one woman and a single summer to ruin it. Not even New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio can beat Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ time for running a city into the ground. It took de Blasio two terms. Bottoms has been so spectacular she’s announced she won’t even run for a second one.

As a result of her rank incompetence, Buckhead, a wealthier section of Atlanta with about 100,000 residents, has decided to control its own destiny. There are two bills in the state legislature to affect the split, and the group has raised the required amount of money to move forward. Buckhead is petitioning to become wholly independent and establish and enlarge their own police force under different leadership.

Tucker Carlson interviewed Bill White, the leader of the movement to create an independent Buckhead. White told Tucker that residents feel as if they are living in a war zone. They are filing for divorce, according to White, and it will be final. He expects there will be an initiative on the ballot in 2022. If it is successful, Atlanta will lose at least 20% of its tax base.

Carlson described the rise in crime during his monologue. Two recent assaults include a man shot while jogging by an unknown assailant in a residential neighborhood and the stabbing of a pregnant woman on a walking trail in broad daylight. Her baby had to be delivered three months early. Neither victim was robbed, just violently assaulted:

In Buckhead, murders year-to-date are up almost 50 percent—that’s a lot of new dead people. Robberies and aggravated assaults are up by nearly 40 percent. Car thefts are up 65 percent. Lenox Square mall in Buckhead, one of the first indoor shopping malls in the United States, is now too dangerous to visit. Beginning last year, someone was getting shot at the mall virtually every month.

Carlson noted that the mall is now highly secured with metal detectors and armed officers, but violent crimes are still happening. White explained at least part of the reason why. He showed a video of a drive-by shooting where one resident was hit. There were blue police lights visible in the video, but Bottoms has prohibited officers from vehicle pursuits to prevent auto accidents. So the shooters just drove away and the officers called an ambulance and rendered aid.

quote:

Buckhead is not alone in seeking to redraw lines, though the reasons differ. An area of Cobb County referred to as West Cobb will be conducting a feasibility study to determine whether to become their own city. Unlike Buckhead, they do not plan a complete divorce. The residents would remain in Cobb County schools and rely on Cobb County emergency services. Instead, the residents want what many other towns in north Georgia have: control over zoning, code enforcement, and waste management. They hope to incorporate the city of Lost Mountain in 2023.

Didn't Sandy Springs do the same thing? Or was it unincorporated before?

Good, frick her for neglecting to do her job and allowing crime to run rampant. I’m surprised it took this long. Buckhead was awesome to hang out in until Ray Lewis shined a light on it.

that mayor of theirs, Keisha Lance Bottoms is a joke. She is running that city out of the DNC FantasyLand Playbook and look what happened.

Allegations of "Systemic Racism" inbound in 3, 2, 1...

Then we will see how much the people of Buckhead really want a split. Generally, people back down when the Racism Card gets thrown. What they should do is tell the card thrower to shove it in their arse and hit back with facts and stats.

Even with the current fiasco it's unlikely. There is too much money and corporate interest to do this because the entire country's leftist media would come down on them for abandoning the rest of the City.

Which I would love because it would draw the dispute into focus - the COA wants to continue to take Buckhead's money without providing much in return. The argument ultimately boils down to "We're entitled to your money and you're a racist if you want to exercise self-determination and keep your own money." It's too bad we don't have a fair media establishment which would let that idea be debated in public.

One of the most disingenuous pieces of reporting (more like one sided hit piece) FrontLine ever did was on St. George.

They never once looked at other numerous situations around the country where this not only occurred but was incredibly successful, beneficial to those who did it. The touted out ivory tower, highly degreed academics who repeated the rhetoric “st George bad” over and over. Then to argue for the merits of st George they just kept interviewing some old retired angry white dude in front of his garage...despite the mountain of reciprocal evidence they could of used to make an even passing case of balanced points.

Georgia is a place where this has happened all over, not 50 years ago in the peak of civil rights, but recently...not because of racism but because the city of Atlanta is doing a shitty fcking job. Good for Buckhead.

Buckhead should have done this 25 years ago. It's too late now. Buckhead is lost.

Baton Rouge is against white people governing their selves. The black mayor and the black leadership like to keep the whites within their control like they own them. It’s disgusting. The racist mayor and racist chief of police don’t even care about all the black on black crime.

This is probably gonna start happening more in Democratic run cities. The money neighborhoods are tired of the idiot Mayors not giving a damn or doing anything about crime. So the best option for the money is to keep all their revenue and taxes in their area and pull it from said Democratic idiots.

Hell, it’s even been attempted in Shreveport. Ellerbe wanted to become its own town because the Shreveport Mayor and City Council are idiots.

I’d love for it to happen. Shitty arse and ran city losing the majority of its tax base is what it deserves.
