I grew up playing sports all the time as I’m sure many of you did. Now I’m 31 and naturally not playing sports often. Picked up a basketball for the first time in a long time the other day and started shooting some jumpers and it just felt good. Made me think back to the sports days and what little parts I enjoyed the most.

What are some specific sports plays/activities etc you loved doing the most? Some of mine are:

Football
1. Pure form tackle
2. Oklahoma Drill
3. Playing on scout team against the varsity
4. Blitzing
5. Tracking the ball as a WR on a go route
6. The feeling of waking up on Gameday in HS
7. 7 on 7 tournaments

Basketball
1. Making both free throws
2. Pick pocket steal
3. Tournaments
4. Bus rides back to the school after a win
5. 2 on 1 fast break drill in practice
6. Crushing teams that really sucked
7. Having the ball on a fast break

Things I don’t miss:
Track Practice

There are few things quite like hitting a home run. It doesn’t matter how many you hit. The feeling is glory, through and through. Especially grand slams and walk offs.

Practicing fielding bunts was always fun too because you always got to do some wild arse trick throw to first.

I was/am in no way an athlete but I played sports while growing up.

Baseball:
Bat on ball contact (very rare for me)
Sliding under a tag
As a catcher, talking shite to batters (making ump laugh)

Football:
Putting a defensive lineman on his back
The feeling and sound of contact
Pulling and smoking a DE or CB
Seeing my running back five yards up field because of the hole I made.

Basketball:
Five blatant fouls that prevented baskets. Other teams knew I sucked and also knew if I came in someone was going to the free throw line

I will add:

one on one make'm take'm
3 vs 3 half court

as a middle linebacker I loved when a quarterback would throw that hospital pass

getting an interception

Scoring a touchdown (small school....played both ways)

smear the queer

not really a sport but having wars with BB guns in the woods with a few friends.

Sliding into 2nd base with your Mo...jk.

But seriously, sliding into 2nd base on a pop up slide. Stealing the bag and gracefully popping up from only your momentum with foot on the bag.

Ran track and cross country. There's a sense of satisfaction that you get when you pass someone and break them. There's this split second of tension and then you feel their soul leave their body and just know they're done

I played all three sports(baseball, basketball, football) but for some reason Baseball came really natural for me. It felt like I owned the baseball park, I was a totally different individual when I was on the diamond. I excelled at every position and hitting the ball was so easy to me I didn't understand why other guys around me would struggle. It was the best time of my life.

As a former athlete myself, I truly miss the camaraderie of being on a team. Played soccer in a beer league for a while after school and the ball busting while throwing back a few after the game was always my favorite part.

When I was playing "for real" I didn't much enjoy when the coaches got all over your arse.

I enjoyed most all of football. Wearing the Jersey on game day Friday to school was always a highlight. It reminded you all day what was coming that night. Definitely do not miss tow a days in August though.

There’s just something special about baseball in the summer. Being in the dugout with your boys and then heading to the pool after, the smells, the sounds, all of it.

I’ve been fortunate enough to play sports basically everyday since I was 4. But summer baseball is the one that I always reminisce on.

Biddy basketball - used to love breaking the other team's full court press with no dribbles, ending in a layup for us at the other end. After a couple of those, the press would be called off.

That feeling when the pitcher hangs a curve and you don't even feel it when you catch the sweetest of the sweet spot on the bat.

Destroying a receiver a split second after the ball gets there and the "ooohhhhh" the crowd makes on big hits.

The smells/sounds of the ballpark/stadium.

Definitely the excitement of game day and the adrenaline of running out there and playing in front of a big crowd. Also the locker room talk and stuff like that. Don’t miss any practice activities or conditioning for sure.

Screw that. I probably got like 10 concussions as a sophomore in high school
