Wow. Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson cancelled from Charlottesville? This is big IMO

quote:

Nearly four years after white supremacists marched through Charlottesville, Virginia, protesting a proposal to take down a Confederate statue, city leaders have unanimously voted to remove the Robert E. Lee monument -- and another.

The Charlottesville City Council voted Monday night to remove the Lee statue from Market Street Park as well as a statue of Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson from Court Square Park. The decision ends years of back and forth between leaders and statues' supporters, and legal challenges.

In a statement released after the vote, the council said the statues' pending removal is "a major step forward toward telling a more complete history of our community."

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

Maybe they can replace them with some non-splotchy green ones this time. Very ugly

Good for the town. I typically find when you're arguing for the white supremacists it's not the right side to be on.

Well of course. The ONLY thing either is known for is owning slaves, so that’s obviously why the statues were made in the first place

The left always tries to erase history. They are kind of like the Taliban in that regard.

I, too, feel the best way to tell your complete history is by erasing the parts of it you don't like or agree with.

This is a republic at work. If the citizens of the city don't like it, they can vote the city council out next time around.

None of my business. I have my own corrupt clown show of a city council to vote against.

I’d bet 3/4 of them aren’t even Virginian.

Very good. Replace them with a big bronze statue of Labron James and Colin Keppetnick. Then the city council can pay their historical respects to their idols.

So, eliminating part of the history tells a more complete history? That's like saying leaving out flour and eggs makes for a more complete cake.

This is the same place that elected a mayor that compared the town itself to her own rapist.

If most of the city wants them removed, I guess that's their business. Just don't destroy them, donate them to another town or museum. That Robert E. Lee statue is a beautiful piece of art and must be preserved.

Good. Now slavery never happened. Let's destroy all the history.

even if they took down every statue of every white person ever created, they'd still bitch about slavery that no white person currently on earth ever participated in

I don't have a problem with this as long as it was voted for and not torn down.
