the problem is a lot of people feeding the “you’re trans” bs without actually seeing a mental health professional. It’s the “oh you can be trans without have gender dyphoria” that honks me off. I get so mad at those folks because gender dysphoria is literally THE medical condition that defines transsexualism.

Again, I think a lot of it is the narcissistic attitude of society created by social media and the attention it affords many. This is especially true in parents saying their 6-year-old is trans because he said one day he was a girl and started playing with dolls.

Jesus Christ. Your post got my curious so I went and spent about 10 minutes reading random posts on that subreddit. My brain hurts and I feel 50 IQ points dumber from the experience. There's a whole lot of mental illness floating around over there.

GCS (gender confirming surgery).

That’s an oxymoron.

If you need surgery to “confirm” it, it’s not your gender.

There’s nothing wrong with letting the child socially wear clothes of the opposite sex or be called something else or whatever, but those parents need to be beating down the door of psychotherapists immediately before allowing any sort of medical stuff to happen.

It's sad. A lot of young people pushed down this route and they feel like the community telling them to do SRS are supporting them when it is not true at all. I really feel for them. It is a complex mental issue not being treated correctly and it is only growing in the west.

The acronym/term has changed at least three times in the last thirty years as far as I know.

If you read the numbers on transexuals, transgenders.. whatever you want to call them, the younger someone transitions, the more likely they are to commit suicide.

I hate to say it, because I am not one for more laws, but there should be something that doesn't allow people to transition until they are a certain age. Like 25. That's a decision someone should wait to make when their brain is fully developed.

But I saw an article the other day from 2016.. From the NYT, that said the number of people who identify as a transexual has doubled within only several years. With it being more acceptable you would expect a slight increase.. But double? That's because its not just acceptable its being celebrated. And kids (teenagers) who are looking for a group to be accepted by.. They can suddenly say they are transexual and BOOM. They are congratulated, celebrated, etc.. They go through the process to transition and then 20 later they realize thats not who they really are.. And that has to be a difficult way to go through life.

I disagree. When you are young, you have no idea what you want to be but the ridicule from peers could last a lifetime.

Chris, this is one of the most sensible things you have ever posted and I agree.

Of course some regret it. Others regret not doing it and others regret even thinking about it. What is certainly clear is that right wingers are obsessed with this. Obsessed.

This should be a medical and psychiatric standard of practice. I agree with everything you wrote.

It’s because they and the people around them that are supposed to care about their well being convinced themselves that chopping off their dick would allow them to live happier more fulfilled lives. Instead they find out that not only are they still unhappy but they now have mutilated genitals. I guarantee you that if there were thousands of mentally ill people consumed with the idea that their happiness lied in amputating an arm or a leg the same enablers now would think that’s absolutely crazy.

I feel bad for the people that figured out that they were going the wrong direction when it was too late. That must absolutely suck.
