Dollar General is classy. I wouldn’t be caught dead in a Family Dollar.

This. Dollar Tree is awesome for party supplies, decorations, and gift wrap. They have everything too. When I was broke and moved into my first apartment by myself without a roommate, I got everything I needed at DT. Home cleaning supplies, a broom and mop, garbage can, cooking utensils, wine glasses... all $1.

I haven’t been to a DG since I was a kid (there’s just not one around here I don’t think) and I’ve never been to a Family Dollar.

More accurately it is the rural man's WalMart. Price per unit are not better at a DG. Outside of a DG store brand (Clover Valley?) food item you prefer to Walmart's Great Value brand there is little reason to choose DG over WM. They just tend to be more convenient since they are generally a quicker in and out and they are freaking everywhere.
As gasoline continues to skyrocket it makes the cost of travel to grocers and WallyWorld more expensive per unit with a DG on every corner and sometimes middle of the block too.

The others are mini-Walmarts that get a few bonus feel good points for serving poe folk in podunk food deserts.
Have you checked out the Youtubes on cooking all the $1 food items at Dollar Tree? You're in for a real treat eating $1 prime rib and king crab.

Our pastures, woods, and vegetable gardens provide much better food than you can get in your food metropolis.

Exactly

They have one in BFE halfway between New Iberia & Delcambre.

Delcambre has their own store. New Iberia has several.

There’s another between Delcambre and Youngsville on the back way to Maurice.

There is a DG literally right at the end of my road. It's always clean, well-stocked, busy, and the manager is library-sexy hot. She'd definitely get it.

I know, but poor people (and people in general) don't have the time or resources to go farm to farm and buy food. They need single stores to buy what they need.

I picked up 15 towels for the pool room at $3 each at Dollar General the other day. Good, long towels.

I agree with OP’s ranking

Dollar General gives me anxiety.

You’re there at midnight because you didn’t realize you were almost out of baby formula. They have it but you need to move 5 blankets 18 throw pillows a swimming pool and a 78 Buick skylark out of your way before you can even look at the options.

They are Walmart and Amazon’s worst nightmare, I’m 70 miles north of New Orleans and have 3 Dollar Generals, 1 Family Dollar and 1 Dollar Tree within 5 miles of my house.

Their smaller footprint makes for lower overhead and they seem to be opening them everywhere. In every small community, there is likely to be a Dollar General where a Walmart would be too large.

Heck even Venice has a Dollar General for a community of just over 200 people. A typical Walmart can have over 200 workers, but only one register open.
