NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A couple in town for a convention says they woke up to find a burglar inside their Marriott hotel room over the weekend.

Leila and Andy Wieser say they’re scared and angry about what happened to them, calling it an experience they don’t ever want to repeat.

Leila Wieser remembers, “He was just inches away from my head when I was sleeping....that was just....creepy, hard to believe.” Leila and Andy Wieser say they won’t ever come back to New Orleans after a middle of the night break-in, left them shaken.

“You think you’re safe and secure in a locked room,” Leila Wieser said. They stayed at the Marriott Hotel on Canal Street while in town from Wisconsin for a convention. Leila Wieser says she heard a noise at around 5 Saturday morning inside the room and saw the light on in the bathroom, initially thinking it was her husband.

As someone who’s worked in hotels in the past I’m 99.9% sure they were drunk and didn’t close their door all the way. Def some creeps/homeless will wander the halls at those hours looking for opportunities like that. Hotel security folks can only do so much especially at late night when they don’t have the manpower.

At least they lived to tell the story.

Side note, I think a good bit of us have stayed at that canal street Marriot before.

POSITIVES:
-phenomenal restaurant
-wonderful pool, the margaritas were delicious!
-housekeeping was very thorough, always keeping our towels fresh!
-views from our room were unparalleled
-forgot my cell phone in the lobby and one of the bellhops brought it to our room before I knew that I was missing it!
NEGATIVES:
-incapable of preventing homeless people from wandering the hallways

3.5 out of 5 stars

Article doesn't mention if the grill or ice chest were taken.

Hopefully the hotel will credit them with some points for their inconvenience.

Lock the deadbolt and use the security latch and this wouldn't happen. I do it every time, especially when staying in a Louisiana hotel room.

I'm not sure why they're complaining. They got an authentic NO experience.

Quit bitching you white Wisconsin supremacists.
Just consider it an unplanned sleepover.

I thought hotel doors automatically locked. I know they have an extra bolt or latch you can use, but aren’t most doors electronically locked? Sounds to me like they didn’t bother checking the door.
