Haven’t been to NO since COVID started. Going this weekend, and I want a nice local restaurant to try on Friday and Saturday night. Any suggestions?

Venezia. Great steaks and Italian. Great seafood platter off menu as well.
You won't hear that rec from anyone else. The more popular suggestions will come from some others but Venezia is great. Also Brocatos Gelato is right down the street

They make a great pizza pie and you feel like you walked into 1955 Mafia heaven.
I'd like to go to Brigtsens. Haven't been in 2 years now and I love the place.

Not sure the type of food you are looking for but, Veniza’s has been sold 3 times and recently was the latest, not sure who own it now.
If you are looking old school then I would say in no order:
Brightsons
Mandina’s
Katie’s
Fury’s
Fausto’s
Vincent’s
Two Tony’s
Domolise’s
Clancy’s
Gautreau’s
Irene’s- edit to add
These are just some locally family owned.

I'll say it again. Patois.
And Costera.

Venezia.
I live in Mid-City and head over to Venezia a few times a year and almost always get their Fried Calamari appetizer and I get the Eggplant Vatican with the side of Fettucine Alfredo. Great dish for sure.
My wife loves their Veal Panne with the Fettucine Alfredo.
The nice thing is, in the next block is Brocato's for a sweet tooth fix.

I love Venezia, but I don’t know if It’s good/unique enough to give it such a high recommendation for someone visiting from out of town. I feel like most cities have an Italian restaurant as good or better than Venezia. It’s just a typical good and fairly inexpensive Italian restaurant.
Gabrielle is a great recommendation. Other great neighborhood restaurants:
Clancy’s
Patois
La Petite Grocery
Brightsen’s
Bistro Daisy
Rosedale (in Lakeview/Navarre)

Very good food the times I've been there and definitely a few steps above Venezia in atmosphere.
I've got a friend that works at Rosedale and need to get over there one night. Susan Spicer is a very accomplished chef.
