Costco/Kirkland

For everyday wines I always buy from Kirkland whether it be Kirkland bottle or something else they happen to be carrying at the time. I generally try to stay around $15-$20 a bottle and pick up 3-4 every other week or so.

Do you mean the Block # wines? Yes, those are very good.

Yep, Block not Bin. I even looked at a bottle last night (after a few beers) and still somehow typed Bin.

If you like Caymus buy Bonanza.

It’s their cheap cab.

Super good. Vintage so you don’t have to worry about it being a young bottle.

Also you can get it lol 15.99 at Zapardos.

I just Googled and don't think I've ever seen this one before in my usual stores, but weirdly coincidental that I overheard someone order it at Sammy's Grill two days ago. I'll have to check Martin for it.

I agree with Educated Guess and Earthquake that has been mentioned.

This one is my go-to under $20 bottle

I also like this Indian Wells version of Chateau St. Michelle

Bonanza is made w Bulk Grapes from all over CA. Its atrocious. Has zero body, balance or finish. But its certainly not made w Caymus grapes (not a Caymus fan either). But Bonanza is a horrible wine that makes $ off the Caymus name.

So you shite on a wine that is made by Caymus, then proceed to say you don't like Caymus either.

Most wines under 20 are going to be made with bull grapes. shite plent over 20s are too.

Horrible is subjective. I like It for what it is.

And OP literally asked for a sub $20 wine and likes Caymus.

My dislike of Caymus has nothing to do w Bonanza. Stating that the two are nothing alike and do not use the same grapes. Caymus def has body to its wine unlike Bonanza. If you like Caymus, it is not a given that you will like Bonanza. In fact, i'd think you would say "wow these are nothing alike."

Sure. One is a very nice bottle of wine and one is 15 dollars.

I dont Think this is objectively true.

You may like a Cadillac a lot better than a Chevy. And the Cadillac may be a lot better. But they’re similar.

I'm a Wagner detractor (in wine, not politics) and I think Conundrum and Bonanza are similar enough that I'd never buy Caymus if it weren't for friends/family/business associates who unfortunately believe it is some holy grail of steakhouse cabernet.

Nobody has mentioned SIMI vineyards.

Their cab is my favorite cab and it comes in at about $16/bottle. If you can find it at Walmart you can get it for $11/bottle.

Interestingly enough, I do not enjoy their whites. Meh. Go figure.

The single best wine I have ever drank in my life was a simi reserve cab 1999. My best friends dad bought a few bottles. He kept one and gave the others to me and a couple of our friends as a graduation gift. He lost his bottle in Katrina. We drank mine together as we watched the helicopter footage of the aftermath. It was a rough few days. I still remember how that bottle tasted though.

Caymus is overrated for the price. Not worth it IMO

J. Lohr Paso Robles is my favorite right now and I believe it’s $12-14

Dark Horse
Casillero del Diablo
Columbia Crest Estates

Vina Robles is a good $15-20 option
