ETA: Awesome in the sense that the school/district apparently never gave AF about the feels and had the balls to go forward with this mascot.
NOT awesome in the sense that someone might consider it racist.

Virtue signaling at its core. The minority average in Mass. schools is 40%. Falmouth is 19%. School board feels white guilt and destroys tradition to make themselves feel good.

As someone who is expert in Maine demographics, let me assure you...the only school in Maine that has a sizeable non-white demographic is Lewiston High School. Lewiston is number two in the United States (behind Minneapolis) for Somalian resettlement.
Falmouth has a reputation for being a snobby school like the girl said. That's because Falmouth is snobby! I mean, seriously, are we supposed to pretend that rich, white liberals REALLY love diversity? They get a prime section of land, raise the taxes, and zone the riff-raff out of their town. That is exactly what Falmouth is. But White guilt and all.

Maine has a black population of 1.12%.
It shouldn't have been very hard to include the 4-5 blacks in Maine in everything without changing this kind of thing.

My high school's mascot was the Vikings and not a single student that I am aware of was a Viking.
