been open since the 30s, our family has always gone there (im 47), we even got our wedding cakes from there
but this video of the conditions in the back made the rounds this weekend, no more
LINK
it looks like they took their facebook page down, (theres one active from 2020). it had a bunch of negative reviews about how poor it has become.

If he's got time to lean, he's got time to clean.

I've never been to the one on Florida, but I've been to the one on Perkins several times and it always seemed fine. Could never imagine a place being run that way

Wow that is disgusting.
Yeah, we had our wedding + groom cake made at Baum's and we get one or two cakes there a year.

Thats really disappointing to see. I'm a little younger but yea Baums pasteries were part of our family get togethers for decades. I have lots of memories of going there on the way home from Cortana. Since the one on Perkins closed I've been meaning to go visit the one on Florida for some doberge cake but holy shite..nope.

it sounds like they have neglected their business. but couldn't the guy go to the owners and ask to hire others to do a major clean up and set rat traps?
making the video without going to them first seems sneaky.
objectively that very man that made the video could have thrown out the cake pan with the rat in it. go to the owners and tell them to buy new cake pans, or clean those bins outside but ask for extra pay or something?

I know I’m in the minority - but I’ve always thought they were terrible. Usually stuff is stale and they messed up a birthday cake one time - which in hindsight was no big deal - but it kinda ruined the party

25 years ago, the products were tasty.
Not so much anymore. Dunno if they're substituting margarine for butter, or cutting corners on ingredients, but the quality has gone downhill dramatically.
I also don't get the love for Ambrosia. It has a wide array of pastries/sweets, but somehow everything sort of tastes...the...same.
Does BR have a truly good artisan patisserie? Real butter, real other stuff....not just overly decorated scupltural cakes make of spackling fondant.

We buy a half and half Dobosh for holidays and birthdays. Disappointing to see the conditions of the back

That’s one way of spelling it.

The Hungarian dobos (dobosh) torte was the inspiration for NO baker Beulah Ledner, who was of Hungarian descent. Her "doberge" cakes are a direct descendant of dobos/dobosh torte.
Read about Mrs. Ledner here: LINK
And about the dobos/dobosh torte here: LINK
So that spelling and pronunciation are perfectly fine variations....it's "doberge" that's the made-up, frenchified word.

Well, I’ll be damned. I learned something today.
Stuff like this is why this board is better than the OT.

Rosch Bakehaus is as close as it comes in BR. It’s all very artisan and sometimes the flavors aren’t to my taste but it’s all hand done and the quality in general is very good. The lady bakes out of her house and experiments a lot with local seasonal ingredients. You have to follow her IG and sometimes it’s tough to get an order in.

Rosch is SO good. Set reminders for their IG posts so you can buy before they sell out, which they always do.
