I really don’t like their toxic toxicity

A problem for them? Maybe, maybe not. Should it not be left up to the individual to make that determination?

Virtual conference, plus I enjoy having a job.
I'm in a few text convos with other faculty, and letting the idiots speak is pushing folks to the right. I figure when your opponent is destroying themselves, it's best not to get in the way of it.

Toxic productivity is essentially an unhealthy desire to be productive at all times, at all costs. It's the need to go the “extra mile” at work or at home, even when it's not expected of you. Toxic productivity doesn't even let up once the task is complete.
So why did he say this was problematic? What is the "unhealthy" or toxic part?

Free will is a pesky issue for these people.
People betting on themselves and getting ahead on intelligence and hard work has no place in their worldview.

Even in your personal life of trying to better yourself (getting healthy, learning a new language, etc) will always leave you disappointed. Even though we think of universities as being liberal, the capitalistic incentives to grow student populations, have faculty teach classes in the face of a pandemic are bad for the employee. The overall point was that even the university system should be dismantled because it doesn't care for the "laborers."

Hardworking is racist now. Amazing.
that's not what they said
and there is an issue with over-work in the US, but they're eroding the language of that discussion (shocker!) for other goals

And to think our ancestors had to build their own houses from trees they had to chop down.

Then I am personally screwed if this is the new norm to curse this behavior.

So now it's racist to get shite done?

Preach, brotha. I am a little surprised that made its way into the legit sciences. Over here in the Med Center, you'd never hear that. It's all about the RVUs.

Is there? Having spent some time in European labs I have concluded that Americans put in a lot of hours, but not that much more work. They spend too much time piddling around on the web during office hours...oh, wait.

I'm guessing this person ended up on the wrong end of the Bell Curve in school quite often, but was passed along anyway.

Sounds like something I need to add to my future job listings. Those are the employees I need.
