a long-sought commuter rail line between New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

What a stupid fricking statement, nobody is going to commute between those 2 cities on a fricking train

New railroads are a waste of money.

I actually like driving. To me, the drive is half the fun of a trip to New Orleans. But I’ve never worked there. Just go down there to see friends and have fun.

I’m not reading 8 pages to be willing to bet anyone here that this will never happen in the next 25 years. This will happen along with the next Mississippi River bridge.

It didn't happen when Obama proposed his infrastructure plan and it won't happen now.

People will piss and moan that we are always behind the rest of the country at the same time.

Sound alike a great plan. Not like we need better drainage, reliable turbines, updated pipes, more lanes or a new bridge.

Mass transit just hasnt worked well in the US. For a number of reasons.

Mass transit would work if we didn't have uncivilized mobs going car to car looking for people to beat up and rob. Also walking around New Orleans may sound great in the movies, but it takes one second to be alone with 10 psychopaths who want to kill you because you somehow disrespected them by walking 2" on the wrong road. Public transportation in the US is basically the hunting grounds of Biden's children. No thanks.

It works in other countries because they don't have our criminal elements in high percentages like we do.

fricking pointless. How about they build another MS river bridge or expand the basin bridge or causeway.

Tell that to Japan.

Newsflash: they now travel faster than cars.

True, but it won’t be because we don’t have a steam engine running between BR and Nola. Money can be better spent elsewhere in LA.

Japan was awesome. Great hordes of people. Sure there was some crime, but NOTHING like we see here. You were safe. Hell, the cops don't even carry guns most of the time. They don't have to because they can beat the crap out of you with their red and white stick and nobody will give 2 seconds thought about police brutality. Step out of line and you face the consequences.

Japan is a very small country that is highly populated though. Even if we didn't have hordes of thugs preying on unsuspecting people, the logistics of railing out this huge country isn't reality.

I’d love to take a train from Lake Charles to Baton Rouge and/or NOLA so I don’t have to drive it.

I think a commuter train at a lower price would have better outcomes. A high speed train will be expensive to ride and neither option will save significant time on the commute.

What is the point if you can drive the distance in less time?
