Define church membership.

We moved to Texas last Summer and haven't found a church in our area we like.

Thankfully, our old church in Alabama broadcasts practically everything online so we can "attend" every service.

It's sliding along the same scale as societal and morality scales.

The democrats plan to destroy family values and morality is almost complete.

A person answering yes to Gallup's question, "Do you happen to be a member of a church, synagogue or mosque?"

It isn't. If my parents were still alive they would have answered in the affirmative despite having not set foot in a church in probably 30 years

I know a lot of people from the traditional middle class America with similar experiences. They grow up in a church, but somewhere along the way they quit going after a couple of moves and searching for a new church.

How easy is it to be a church member at a time when COVID restrictions have fricked things six ways from Sunday?

This doesn't take into account how people do church in the digital age or the people who consume Christian books/podcasts/ sermons yet never attend a physical church building.

I grew up in the Catholic Church. But along the way, I’ve found more faith in science than I do with the church. For the simple fact that the church is as flawed as I am. Doesn’t mean I don’t believe.

This is not a bad or good thing, but ppl don't need faith to be moral and good.

A lot of people don’t join a church by “transfer of letter” or by “statement” (using the old Baptist terminology). They show up on Sunday. Although I probably agree with the numbers.

The Protestant/Baptist church these days is so concerned about being “relevant”. I go to Church for other reasons. I don’t go to listen to a bad facsimile of rock music and motivational speakers. I want to hear hymns and an organ/piano. I want to hear the Bible verses and a decent discussion regarding said verses, not a poor man’s Tony Robbins.

I understand many on this board are agnostic and frown upon religion, but even IF the whole religion thing is nonsense, it’s not at all clear that the alternative is better.

Church membership gave people meaning and a support system. Taught people how to be around others and act within society

I can’t help but wonder if the explosion in isolation and mental illness and anxiety of our youth isn’t correlated with a decline in membership in churches, after school clubs, etc

I am not even talking about religion. Churches are, when you boil it all down, just another societal organization.

I don’t want to see a decline in these kinds of things without a guarantee that kids and adults are replacing it with other forms of contact and relationship.

The early results suggests they are not.

We should not be cheering the decline of ANY organization that gets people out of the house and into productive side activities.
