re: How y'all feeling about Peyton's ability to flip Jamies TO tendencies

Three different HC/OC combinations in five seasons
Lovie Smith/Dirk Koetter
Dirk Koetter/Todd Monken
Bruce Arians/Byron Leftwich
Next season will be the 2nd time Jameis has played under the same HC and OC in continuous seasons
Keep in mind Payton and Pete Carmichael have been together for 14 years. Sometimes we fail to realize what a shite show 75% of NFL organizations are

People need to remember Arians is an idiot.
He would rather throw long interceptions than short completions.
He’s such an idiot that he’s won everywhere he’s been

He also constantly put his defense in terrible position and threw 10 1st Quarter picks as well as 10 4th Quarter picks.
You can’t blame defense when you’re throwing 20+ picks on you’re own side of the field and 16 picks in the first half of games.
I’ve said this 100 times since the season ended. They don’t want to hear it. They just want to blame the Tampa defense and Arians. Even though Jameis had plenty of problems before Arians got there

Arians himself has admitted not all of the INTs were on Winston
quote:
Arians also told SiriusXM NFL Radio last month that "there are about 10 [interceptions] that weren't his fault.”
Chris Godwin
quote:
I definitely think he got more of the blame than he deserved," Bucs wide receiver Chris Godwin said in a recent interview with The Boardroom. "I think he's a really, really talented quarterback. Obviously there are things that he does that you can't teach, and there are plays that he made that just weren't smart plays.
"But a lot of the mistakes and interceptions that he made, I would say half of them were because of a bad read on someone else's part.”
Multiple publications have broken down the All 22 film, pass by pass, of his 30 INT season and deemed 15 or so INTs weren’t on Winston.
We can play the low end and say only 10 of Winston’s career 88 INTs weren’t his fault, and his career INT% becomes league average. TD% same as guys like Dak and Matt Ryan
You’re trying to frame the argument like people think Winston should be absolved from his mistakes, and that simply isn’t what people are saying. Any logical person sees the good and the bad

Not sure what you’re laughing at.

There are literally people on this board doing everything that they can to absolve him of blame.
I absolutely can see the good with Jameis but the idea that his turnovers were all due to Arians and that system is foolish and some people are going with that

Every QB in the league has a bunch of INTs that weren’t totally their fault
League average INTs with a propensity for fumbles could be a real problem.

It’s always entertaining to watch people completely make shite up to try and hype up Winston. Last week someone said his turnovers were because of a bad offensive line when his line was rated one of the best in the league

No no no that’s ok now.

Thinking SP will get Jameis on the move a bit more and out of the pocket ?
This feels like its saying Jameis makes poor decisions in the pocket where you rely on your brain, but can find success outside the pocket where you rely on your athleticism

I watched all of the interceptions here LINK and there is no one reason that he threw so many. Some appear to be because he was pressing to make something happen, others were due to low effort by his receivers, and then obviously there were plenty of bad choices and bad throws. I think with Peyton's system he can really get this cleaned up. I don't know where his ceiling is but I think his floor is higher than that 2019 season. I just don't think that he ever has this storm of issues happen again where he is throwing to the other team every game while playing for us.

Decision making has to improve regardless.
We just saw Baker Mayfield make a similar jump by limiting his pocket throws. A lot of shotgun and rollout, suited to his strengths. He went from a 2.9 INT% in 2018, to 3.9 INT% in 2019 to 1.6 INT% in 2020. Funny what operating under the tutelage of a guy like Kevin Stefanski can do. Great run game, decent defense, playcalling.
Guys like Russ, Rodgers, Deshaun Watson make a living outside the pocket. Statistically some of the best to do it outside the pocket. I do believe there is a solid gameplan to be had for Jameis. Let's see what SP comes up with. Thoughts?

I have a tall feeling about it in that I'm uncertain.

Every QB throws Int that were their fault.
Taking out Winston’s and then comparing to league average is dumb
Although I feel Like they shouldn’t count Ints that bounce off a WR.
Call it something else.

I admit to being extremely intrigued by Jameis. The guy has immense talent, and I remember it being fairly common for a QB to sit the first few years before taking over. He didn't get that treatment, he was put out there as the immediate starter on a bad team. His numbers weren't great, but I think he has tons of potential if he's willing to take coaching and learn.
He seems to be doing that.
If we had the chance to take him out of college, we absolutely would have.
I won't be shocked if he falls flat, but I also won't be shocked if we have a much better QB than Tampa in 2-3 yrs either, and set for a decade. I'm hoping that's the case.

Payton is very good about playing to a player's strength. Look at the Teddy games.
This. Payton is a master at putting players in a position to succeed. Winston's INTs will get cut down to average. He won't be throwing 30 a year. Get him some speed WRs and he'll be taking the top off the defense that we haven't seen in years.

People need to lower expectations for one, going from a HOF QB to anyone else.
Instead of comparing NOLA Brees to Winston, people should be comparing SD Brees to Winston. The Winston we got is arguably better than the SD Brees we got after his time in SD. Not suggesting that means Winston will end up being a HOF QB like Drew, but nothing to suggest he couldn't be our legit starting QB

Are you kidding lol his last year he threw 30 picks with 30 TDs with 6 lost fumbles
Keep putting the D out there and that's what happen.
Carlton Davis and Jamel Dean had like 35 PBUs between them
I dont even need to bother with the front 7. You know
Lol Jamies vs Tom only difference the QB doesn't turn it over 36 times. And look like absolute dog shite like 3 picks in first half game over.
