I see this comment once a week on the OT and it's common sentiment. It's also absolutely wrong and an excuse for you fatasses to stay lazy and fat

Chicken is like $3-4/lb
Produce is cheap, typically less than $1 per serving, not much more even if you buy the frozen steamables. I eat nothing but fresh food, and a lot of it, for like $200/month.

Fast food on the cheap end is still, what, $6 or more than 2 meals made of chicken and produce.

Stuff like cheez itz are $5 or more for a box and you'll never feel full. At least that much for the shitty sugar laden "granola bars"

Baws, open your eyes, not only are you becoming more and more of a fatass every day, you're wasting your hard earned Biden Bucks. Nut up and buy some groceries one time.

I’ve said this many times.

Rice, chicken, pork chops, bananas, broccoli, and cucumbers are all cheap arse food.

I've never heard anyone say this.

People eat like crap because they're lazy, not because they think it is cheaper.

You are not taking into account the time it does take to prepare but I get your sentiment. Cheaper probably isn’t the right word. It is “easier” to eat unhealthy food than healthy food. The easier part is a combo of the unhealthy food being cheap and easily accessible while also taking little to no time to prepare.

It's not a cost difference issue, it's a time issue. No one wants to spend the necessary time cooking, cleaning, deciding what to make tomorrow, eating leftovers for lunch etc. People just want to hand over $5-10 for a paper bag full of plastic and crap food, 2 to 3 times a day, then throw the trash away. Often right out their car window.

We're a nation of fat, lazy fricks who want to blame anyone but themselves for their situation.

4 lb of great value chicken nuggets is 8.98.

4 pounds of chicken breast at your price is 12-16 dollars.

Of course I buy chicken breast for like 1.99 or less a pound.

I think the more accurate way would be to compare the cost per calorie.

Good question. Eating healthy is not expensive at all. Fresh produce is cheap and plentiful.

bullshite. Or produce receipts showing that you only spend $200 on food for a month

I’m not saying fresh produce and meat is prohibitively expensive, it isn’t......but $200 a month is absurd unless you live alone and/or eat only chicken breasts and strips of celery

And people will buy that instead of using the same money to buy like 20-25 bananas.

The answer you're looking for is people need some justification for their bad eating habits as a defense mechanism for their shitty choices and just being too lazy to cook your own meals. It's easier to say "eating healthy is expensive" than to critically analyze your lifestyle habits.

When people say that, a lot of times what they mean is eating at fine dining establishments/restaurants that use fresher ingredients are more expensive than fast food.

Have an upvote... it most certainly is a bullshite excuse, and lazy. People simply do not know how to cook, and purchase, but most importantly prep and store. If they did, they’d make their own stock, freeze properly without throwing shite out that’s burnt, plan meals properly, and eat healthier with most of their food being veg and 7-8 oz of meat.

It’s always going to be cheaper to cook at your house, and if you’re smart you will end up doing most in house and save a ton of money in the process. The real problem here, and what separates us from those who came before us is the lack of knowledge and will to do it.

The staple of a large portion of my students’ diets. They will bring and eat 4-5 bags per day.
