WSJ: Ford plans to move truck production to Mexico; UAW very upset about it

The factory currently makes variants of the F-series trucks. Ford has agreed to invest in the plant to make the next generation of the model there; but they have changed their mind in the past couple of months and will now move that production to Mexico.
UAW is likely going to try to get the White House involved since the decision by Ford seemed to be timed with the start of the new administration.

UAW Accuses Ford of Shifting New Vehicle Production From Ohio to Mexico
Wall Street Journal
The United Auto Workers union is taking aim at Ford Motor Co. F -0.60% over plans for a factory in Ohio, criticizing the car company for moving vehicle production intended for the facility to Mexico.
UAW Vice President Gerald Kariem in a letter to members Friday said the company told the union it was relocating manufacturing of a next-generation vehicle to Mexico without a clear explanation. Mr. Kariem said in making this move, Ford is failing to live up to a commitment it made to the factory during the last round of contract talks. A copy of the letter was provided to The Wall Street Journal Wednesday.

Research firm AutoForecast Solutions expects Ford to begin production in 2023 of two electric sport-utility vehicles at its factory in Cuautitlán, Mexico. Those vehicles previously had been earmarked for the Ohio plant, said Sam Fiorani, the firm’s vice president of global vehicle forecasting. A Ford spokeswoman declined to comment.

The auto industry’s domestic-manufacturing plans have come under more scrutiny in recent years, as former President Trump pressured car companies to bring vehicle production back to the U.S. from other countries, especially Mexico and China. Ford, in particular, was previously criticized for plans to move small car production to Mexico in 2016. The company has since discontinued those models.
UAW is likely going to try to get the White House involved since the decision by Ford seemed to be timed with the start of the new administration.

This is *Joe Biden's America.

And Joe Biden won't lift a finger. He'll probably drive out even more automakers with "climate justice" regulations.

Detroit – The UAW International Board Tuesday announced the influential unions’ endorsement of former Vice President Joe Biden for President of the United States.
“In these dangerous and difficult times, the country needs a president who will demonstrate clear, stable leadership, less partisan acrimony and more balance to the rights and protections of working Americans,” said Rory Gamble, President of the UAW. “UAW Members need a federal government that ensures that members have both a good job to go to, and that they come home to their families at night having earned a fair day’s wage in a safe and secure place.”

It’s like these union bosses have forgotten the way they’ve voted the last forever years.

The irony is they are the exact reason Ford is moving the plant to Mexico

Maybe they should worry about building 2021 F150s well instead of acting surprised that they can be replaced.

That’s weird.
Quite a few companies began doing operations outside the US also when Obama was in.
I wonder why there is a connection between this administration and Biden’s?

The UAW starts a fire in every room in the house and then complains when they don’t have a place to sleep.

Actions have consequences. Vote for a guy who wants to raise corporate tax rates and dont be shocked when costs are cut by paying pennies on the dollar in mexico. Joe Biden doesn't care one bit about those jobs going overseas. He will just get those fired factory workers on government checks and "problem solved."

Gotta play the role. Union bosses eat steak, union workers eat beans and rice. That dude doesn’t give a flying frick about production moving to Mexico

In other news, jobless auto workers are happier bc of the decrease in mean tweets

Looks like they're getting what they endorsed and encouraged their membership to vote for. Why would they be upset?

The bosses were probably well paid for supporting Biden.
The Union gets money for “getting out the vote” and they can skim it to pay fat salaries.
But there are other ways to bribe people. Big paychecks for no work jobs.

So they want a “wall” to keep production inside the US even though they are making it more expensive to do so when compared to the Mexican alternative?
Interesting.
Interesting.
