live with a very close family member who has this. The drugs they have now are great. She still gets fatigued but otherwise lives a normal, healthy life.
This is the case with my mom. She was diagnosed 10 years ago. So far, very little progression other than she gets fatigued more easily and can’t climb more than a couple please flights of stairs without a break.
And honestly some of that might just be normal aging as she’s now 67.
Good luck to you and hang in there.

I know a few people with it. All men between 40-70. None stopped living their life. Each of them have different symptoms but all have quality of life. One is about 65 now and had to retire early due to it but he still gets around ok.
One guy ended up in a wheelchair for a while but through therapy and medicine he is back walking again and hiking. Don’t ever give up.

I have a friend with it, he's in his early 60's and still doing pretty well, and active. Best of luck.

I know this is an MS thread but you are right. ALS is the cruelest. If there was one disease to cure, this should be it.

It's not a death sentence chief. Some meds really help. Have a veteran/cop buddy who has it but meds have allowed him to maintain a somewhat normal life.

I have a couple people I know that have MS. All under 50 and all have relatively the same life.
Main issue is fatigue and not able to push body like they use to
BTW have they ruled out shingles? Did you have a rash anywhere?
I had tingling on my leg and foot last year and just blew it off. Finally went and saw a doctor a month later and it was shingles. Because I waited so long I still have residual nerve damage. It’s a bitch

I initially thought the tingling/burning on my leg was shingles. But after it kept re-occurring with no rash I have determined that it is probably more to it.

Wife was diagnosed a little more than a year ago. Like others say not the same as it was years ago, but will have to change some life behaviors. Getting a really good Neuro and finding the right meds is key. Seek out a specialist that almost exclusively handles MS. Not fun, not easy, to deal with or come to terms with but it is not what it once was. Best Wishes and there is a hell of a good community of help out there.

Have a former boss who was diagnosed. With some relatively simple diet and lifestyle changes you would never know it.
Wishing you the best and hope you have a highly manageable case.

My BIL was diagnosed while stationed in Spain. He was medically discharged from the AF. They just got back to the states in February.
He seems super excited to be back and with the birth of their third child, he’s not looking at their future with any kind of gloom. He just landed his first civilian job with John Deere.
Prayers for you OP

They rule out Gilliam Barre Syndrome?

I am waiting on an appointment with the Neurologist myself. I am thinking I have MS as well. I hope not but I am a PT and I am recognizing some of the signs. I have have some vision issues, tremor and I am unusually fatigued after activity that isn't that strenuous. It is what it is and treatments have come a long way. Prayers sent for you. Don't get to thinking that your life as you know it is over and you will be a burden to someone you love. That is overwhelmingly not the case.

Best wishes and prayers to you. FWIW, a family member of ours was diagnosed a decade ago, and he’s still rolling along. I do know that since testing has improved, they’re able to diagnose it earlier than in previous years.

I've known 3 people with MS. Two were/are wheelchair bound (the older one recently died) and the third was diagnosed several years ago but shows no symptoms. She's about your age.
I don't know what to tell you. It seems to affect different people very differently.

I know a guy who was diagnosed about 25 years ago. He's still looks as active as he was then minus the typical age factor and will still whip my arse on the golf course.

If whatever you are doing for a living doesn't pan out, you should think about a career in motivational speaking.
just messing with you man, it's all good

GBS is also called ascending paralysis. He would have likely been on a ventilator by now and unable to move his legs if it were GBS. I have had patients with this and it's awful and takes a long time to get over if it isn't caught within the first week or so. Not being an arsehole, just sharing
