As long as media companies are bowing to "social media users," it is relevant. See: Gina Carano.
The tweets the article quotes are general criticisms of Grease, not people saying it should be canceled. It then quotes other tweets assuming, for little to no reason, that Grease will be canceled based off a few people saying the movie hasn't aged well. The only people generating outrage are the people reacting to a few critical tweets (and MSN, by publishing an article with a misleading headline they knew would be eaten up by idiots). Grease isn't currently being produced, and the level of outrage didn't come from anyone involved with making of this 40 year old movie doing something stupid.
This situation isn't the same, and you could probably use the same lesson Carano could have internalized: noticing a surface similarity doesn't make two situations equivalent.

100% comparable. What she posted was 100% innocent, not racist, not "rapey," etc. Same goes for Grease. You ignore this at your own peril.
Except, it's not.
A handful of people bitching on Twitter about a movie that's been around for decades and isn't going anywhere isn't comparable to someone working for Disney who has close to a million followers on Twitter espousing an opinion (right or wrong) that got panned by her employer. It's an apples and oranges comparison.
And who even goes to MSN.com anymore for "news"? I just looked at their front page and it makes my eye twitch.

They should be far more alarmed at just how filthy the songs are in that movie. I actually kinda love Grease, but watching it as an adult...holy shite, some of those song lyrics are straight up filthy.

She had been warned many times, the last warning was about 4 days before.
All her co-stars were supporting her in the cries for cancelling, for about a year.
All she had to do was stop being inflammatory on Twitter.
Yes, there is a double standard, and it is very shitty. If this was her "taking a stand", well people who take a stand get fired, arrested, etc. before anything change.
Did Pascal post something worse? Yes. There are no calls to boycott or social media uproar over Pascal's posts.

Haven't people been getting red-faced when they figured out the lyrics pretty much since the movie came out? But everything is new every day for Twitter drones and clickbait journalists.

So probably a whole 10 people on Twitter.

I'm so sorry. Please thank him for his service on my behalf.
Wait.
Which side did he fight for?

OK, so what are they going to do about it?
For a group of people of whom the vast majority consider themselves "liberal," they are using some pretty conservative tactics. They want to ban a movie?
How about a clockwork Orange? it glorifies a rapist and murderer. I guess that means you'd ban the book as well. Starting to sound quite fascist to me

The sad part, corporations across the country are changing behaviors and policies based on little more than that.
Even a lot of people on the far left are getting sick of identity politics.

And this is about the 50's. They were hidden at the back of a very dark closet then.
