Didn’t realize that. I’ve said I like Helmers at 1B but he needs time off.

I'm fine with starting Thompson there today based on the defense he showed yesterday. We knew going into the season he would need some time for the bat to come around.

Safford getting a shot there would be nice too.

If Gio is out, Crews can play CF. Drost can play RF. Hampton, Sanford, Safford, or Beloso can play left.

Dugas can sit and collect his thoughts, I still think he can break out this year, but a 50% K rate ain't gonna do it.

How is Hamptons bat doing these days? I like his defense but he has looked overwhelmed when I saw him hitting. If is competitive there now, he’s a shoe-in for the spot.

I’m assuming he’s not though, which is why he hasn’t sniffed the lineup yet.

Right now, Helmers definitely shouldn't play third and since he hit like a pitcher last weekend, there really isn't a place in the lineup for him.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against Morgan at first. If we are strong everywhere else and that’s where he has to be to keep his bat in the lineup, I’m for it.

But we’re not strong everywhere else. And again I do like heftier guys at 1B. I want a guy there that can punish a runner. Beat em up a bit. I think it sets a tone about how my team is coming to play.

At the end of the day, I kinda want an a-hole at 1B.

Have you seen Morgan play OF? He’s pretty good at it.

Travinski should get time at 1B.

I’m a fan of bigger, heavier guys at 1B.

I watched 2 games and can tell you Morgan is the best defensive 1B ive ever seen at LSU. they aren't moving him.

Crews or Hampton will play CF i reckon

I’d rather a guy that will make all the scoops

And a lefty with reach who can receive ball quicker and save overthrows.

We’re two games in and we haven’t made all the scoops already.

Huh? I mean I guess I get what you’re saying but I think you’re overestimating the amount of times that a 1st baseman is put in a position to “punish” a runner. PM has said that Morgan is one of the best defensive 1st basemen that he’s had. Having a guy who can scoop a ball in the dirt is much more important than having a guy that can beat the runner in a fight

I like this plan. Almost forgot about Drost and he seemed to be swinging it well in fall and spring scrimmages based on the few stats that came out.

I was very disappointed with how he looked this weekend based on all the talk and how he had been swinging in scrimmages.

But who would you have as DH if Beloso ends up playing LF?

Any of the previously untried bats.

Umm, what? Based on 2 games? And what did you see that he did so amazing besides the over the rail dugout catch? Kind of hoping this was just sarcasm.

In fact I saw him miss a reasonable pick on Hellmers' first short hop throw yesterday that a lot of first basemen probably come up with and would have secured the out.

Now, I don't say that to crap on the guy, b/c those things happen and you can't pick all of them. I'm plenty happy with how he played the position and even happier with his work at the plate. But to say he is the best ever (unless you are being sarcastic) is a bit hyperbolic at this point.

And the "weak hitters" you talk about should NOT be given a 5 game chance? You contradict yourself. How do you know they are weak through 2 games?

Then Morgan is your man. Kid definitely has a little cockiness to him. I think he is going to be that guy you love on your team but would hate him if he played for anyone else.

I personally like his swagger. A true freshman coming in after missing so much time and he walked on the field like he owned the place.

This is the worst logic I’ve ever heard.

You’ve been advocating moving Morgan to the OF for two weeks. You’re better off just saying you’re a big Hellmers fan and want him at 1B.
