My Uncle (who was an Army Ranger in WW2) told me the only thing missing from the opening of Private Ryan was the smell. Other than that, he said those first 20 mins were exactly right

Yeah, I consider the cemetery to be the opening scene for SPR. Which is also extremely powerful.
