Girlfriend's cat got in a fight with an opossum

The kitty got pretty dinged up - bleeding on her abdomen, face, and one of her paws. The GF (no pics) won't stop sobbing about "her baby," wondering if she should lock the cats inside from now on.
How do I convince her the damn thing is fine and nature will be nature? I guarantee the cat was fricking with the opossum and got what she deserved.

Outdoor domestic house cats are trashy.
Sorry about your cat though.

If she wants to take it to the vet, just let her do it with no arguments. That's my advice.

I'm not a cat person, but don't blame her for being upset. If my dog got hurt I'd baby him and kill whatever messed with him.

Will never happen so don't waste your time. Be supportive and hope something else happens to move her thoughts along

Is it the cat's blood or the possum's blood?
Back on Christmas my dog got into it with a cat, and the cat had blood all over, but it was all from my dog's face where the cat had clawed the shite out of her. Fortunately both were perfectly fine in the end.

This is how I read that post:

Tell the GF that the cat is lucky. Its next encounter may be with a coyote.

I have a hard time believing a opossum messed up a cat.
If a cat knew it couldn't handle something it would run away before anything really happened, and a opossum isn't catching it.

I’d take it to the vet. Opossums look like they carry every disease in the book. Nasty frickers.

They can’t have rabies.

Can confirm.

It is an outdoor cat. At this point, there is no changing that, and outdoor cats sometimes get into fights and other shite, thus have a reduced life expectancy compared to indoor cats.

That cat must be a pussy....

Correct. The cat fricked with the possum.
They aren't aggressive unless put in a defensive position. They won't even back down when threatened by my GSD.

The possum will move on. Possum didn't want no trouble but got cornered and took care of business. But a fight between a domestic cat and a wild animal I'm betting on the wild animal. Even though my cat has left a family of mice, grown squirrel, and a shredded bird on the doorstep.

Bullets to the head. Go adopt a kitten

Possum's are nearly 100% immune to rabies.

Coming to the OT lounge instead of the vet seems like the best first move.
Very smart thinking.
