I would assume there would be some time before they force you to take the money. I can’t imagine they wouldn’t let you get your accounts set up. They have to have a spot to put it after all.

Probably just the house safe
What if your house was robbed (not for the ticket, just regular robbery) or burned down?

Send wife to Academy and buy the biggest fire safe in the store

Assuming if you won, you would spend some time setting up LLCs, trusts, etc.
What would you do with the ticket in the interim?
I have nightmares about this sort of thing.
Keep it in a bank safety deposit box? What if the bank burns down or gets swallowed in an earthquake?
Trying to get ahead of the game for when I win.
If you won, regardless of how long it would take you to claim your ticket you still have to wait for the money.
It is not like when you go to the Lottery Office in Baton Rouge and then they give you a billion-dollar check after you have a press conference and take a picture with the Powerball mascot and a large fake check.
I would highly doubt they would give you the money right away, and do you believe the Louisiana Lottery or the state, in general, has enough in an account to write a several hundred-million-dollar check in a short period of time?
I can remember a news story in Illinois that some lottery winners had to wait for the state to pass its next budget in order to pay out winnings.
Then think of the face of a bank teller when you try to cash the said check at the bank. Some small local banks don't even have that much in normal assets. With that deposit, you could double or triple a bank's worth in deposits in one transaction.
Would you put it in the chute, or would you get down?

And that's how 50% of lottery winners end up broke. Thinking it's an unlimited amount.
740 million one time pay out is pretty close to it.
ETA: I didn't buy a ticket, I never carry cash and I'm to lazy to make the effort.

It’s not a matter of actually taking possession of the money. Some states allow you to claim it in an LLC.

would immediately claim it. That's enough money that it really wouldn't matter how I handled it

I would keep it in a safe somewhere. Or in back of the freezer.
Posted on 1/22/21 at 7:50 pm to Bjorn Cyborg
I would hide it in the house and wouldn’t leave my house until i went to claim it- would just tell people I’m in corona quarantine.

Have it wherever it was guarded by round the clock teams of State Troopers, Sheriffs, and Private ex-military Security. All paid handsomely of course and would not tell them why or what they were providing security for. Have some fake decoy places as well.

Sign it and then claim it immediately. There is plenty of time from date of claim to set up LLCs etc before you get the money or the hold a press conference.

Perhaps. Would depend on the law of when it is considered “claimed” and if they let you delay making your name public.

I would immediately find all the people that hate me. I’d take them on a hunting trip and then pull the ticket out and laugh at them flaunting the unsigned ticket.
