Don Cheadle has ancestors that were still slaves after emancipation because they were enslaved by native Americans on reservations.

There is no such thing as "native americans". There are only people that settled here before others and couldn't hold their land due to lesser weapon technology and weak immune systems.

Buddy, EVERYBODY kept slaves back in the day - if they could afford them.
The Arabs raided the Greek Islands and all the northern shores of the Mediterranean for slaves - women for their harems and men to do hard labor, including rowing the galleys.
The Nordic people took slaves all over Northern Europe, Normandy and the British Isles.
The American Indians routinely took slaves from other Indian tribes (and stole their land, committed genocide, etc)
Sub-Saharan Africans were tribal peoples who committed every atrocity the American Indians did, including slavery. In fact, the American slavery so much abhorred was stocked with slaves captured primarily by black Africans.
The Japanese enslaved Koreans and Chinese. The Chinese are CURRENTLY enslaving muslims.
What makes western civilization unique is that they GAVE UP SLAVERY VOLUNTARILY due to conscious. I had no part in any of this, but I tend to be proud of our ancestors for their part in slavery - the British for employing their navy to patrol the African West Coast to prevent slavers. The Americans for spending their treasure and their blood to free the slaves. Who else in the world did that?
