Confederate veterans and folks who served in confederate governments during the war had no right to vote during reconstruction in some states. Considering how most folks were drafted and women hadn’t gotten the right to vote yet, almost no whites who grew up here could vote, only carpetbaggers and freedmen could vote or be elected during Reconstruction. It was this initial disenfranchisement that popularized the KKK and motivated Jim Crowe laws once federal troops pulled out in the late 1870’s.

My point is about the oldest person today is about 100. Born in 1920.
Any slave, at the youngest, was say 15 in 1865, born in 1850.
That former slave would have had to live past 70 years old in order for that oldest person today to have had an alive former slave that they possibly could have met as a toddler.

Or how about africans selling the losing tribes to the European and Spanish (probably anyone else for that matter) during the slave trade. Blacks sold out their own kind.
