Most likely it will be Neilson the saints dline coach.

And I can also see Kris Richard getting the job if Neilson says no or Kris Richard could come as the safeties coach if he doesn't get a job in the nfl.

Assuming one of the targets is still coaching in the NFL playoffs? If it’s who we think it is, fingers crossed it’s a few more weeks.

nobody wants to sign on to work for a lame duck coach

ETA: which is why I'm surprised Kevin Steele signed on to work for Germy Proot

Richard turned down NFL secondary coaching jobs in the NFL because he said he believed he was too talented to be just a DB coach so I doubt he takes a college job coaching safeties.

There is no reason to rush. If they have done their due diligence and believe the guy they want is still coaching then you wait it out and get that guy. That’s what they did with Freeman. He was their top guy they waited for them to play their bowl game then they interviewed. He said no so now you go to number two and wait if you need to.

I suspect there is a gentleman's agreement (at minimum) in place between O and Neilson. Or at least I would hope so. O will wait until the Saints season endS before anything formal happens. But in the meantime, LSU will still field calls from others who may be interested just to hedge their bets. If a big time name expresses interest, LSU/O will look into it. It could be someone no one is talking about who is just too good to turn down. Either way, I don't think LSU is "searching". Neilson is the guy unless they get interest from someone else whom they can't refuse.

Remember, these things work both ways. It not just the schools trying to court new coaches. Coaches, via their agents, quietly reach out to AD's ALL THE TIME

Maybe an nfl guy was his guy all along (behind Freeman). He had to go after the biggest college “fish”. That was Freeman. Make him say “no”. Well, they did and he did. Maybe O thinks Neilson is the next best. Try and hire the next best. There aren’t a lot of hot names left in the college ranks. Most of em, 90% of the rant would bitch about. There’s no way to make this board happy. Recruiting is essentially over. (For us, with Leigh gone, it is). There’s no need to panic or rush at this point. NOT A SINGLE FKING PERSON on this board can say who would be successful or not. No one coaches. 3/4 have never played. It’s a crap shoot.

They didn’t get that guy.

You can’t let one guy string you along. You can only wait if you have a contract done in private already.

I'm sure it's been said before but this happened with Kiffen and O before. We paid the price for waiting and the deal falling apart.

Why are you rushing it? is there some immediate deadline? why would you not want your head coach to wait and interviews guys in the NFL playoffs? Usually if you make it to the second round, well you are doing something right with your position.
