Disclaimer: I am not a liberal, I am probably in the top 5-10% most conservative people on this website, but this has always bugged me a lot

Let me restate what I think you are trying to imply. You believe all democrats became republicans and all republicans switched to democrats at the same time or over the course of a very short period of time.
They have programmed you very well. I bet you think FDR was the greatest President because he passed the new deal and wanted to pack to the court. Sounds like the democrats stayed the same to me.

The switch is a myth. Seriously. Think of how insane it would be for voters, who feel abandoned by the Democrat party as the Dem party started to push for greater freedoms for the blacks, to leave that party. To vote. For the party. That freed the slaves. To vote. For the party. That forced school integration via federal military intervention.

Dont forget the south didnt start voting republican consistently until W Bush, so mentioning a party switch before the year 2000 is just 100% false.
Democrat party is the same fricking party its always been except it uses welfare as slavery instead of working in the fields.
