Old topic, but does the Herman fire make anyone feel better about “missing” on him for LSU? Many treated him like the second coming.

Not at all. Herman would have had more success here than O.

So ridiculous. No matter what else happens, O was the better hire. We got a Heisman Trophy winner and the best season in the history of college football. Those things will last forever.

Don’t forget Fisher and Kiffin. All four of those guys were offered the chance to be a part of LSU in 2019, but it was O that got the job done. The rest didn’t.

are we still pretending like O didn’t inherit a much better situation than Herman did?

It’s always crazy to me how many of the hottest names in coaching end up being busts. The list is endless.

Might have just been the wrong fit for Herman.

Both Herman and O were hired the same year. Herman had every chance to recruit better players and coaches, but it was O that got it done. Herman couldn’t even beat O with home field advantage.

So he’d have had multiple national titles?

Who knows how well Herman would’ve done here?

Not really. Nobody can have success at Texas I doubt even Saban could salvage that program. There's just more to coaches consistently going over there to die. It's the program itself is the problem at this point.

Did Iowa State, Baylor, Maryland, WVU, and TTU coaches all inherit better situations than Herman? Because they all beat him at UT.

I think Herman is a better coach, but he isn't the recruiter Orgeron is, so he wouldn't have gotten Joe Burrow. He definitely would not have gotten Joe Brady.

Probably no championship, but probably doesn't as bad a year this year.

He had a 5 loss season last year and averaged 4.5/season in his 4 years there.

You could be right, but he already recruited and coached joe burrow once, so he probably couldve gotten him again

I don’t know that any of us will ever know the answer to that. Circumstances may have been different. Maybe we don’t get Burrow with Herman, maybe the offense doesn’t need him. Maybe, maybe, maybe. We’ll never know.

I know 3 things based on the Herman/O saga.
1. O won a national title and had the best CFB season ever.
2. Herman was an epic failure at UT.
3. It doesn’t take a great coach to be successful at LSU

He recruited Burrow to Ohio st. He would’ve gotten him.

Well it’s a lot like being the first overall pick in the draft.

Usually teams are hiring a new coach for a reason and at big time programs the reason is very seldom because the last guy did a good job of running the program.

So what happens is the hot coach goes to a big program in need of a rebuild but boosters, administration and fans all expect to win now.

The young coach has never dealt with pressure that large so it fails and we rinse and repeat with the next hot name.
