The dude couldn’t even win the Big 12 and you think he could’ve won in the SEC?

Herman would have had more success here than O.

By 'here' you must mean the TD boards.

I think Herman would have been fine at LSU. Texas is a very toxic place. And he wasn’t a disaster. He couldn’t beat Oklahoma and pissed off the wrong people with the eyes of Texas fiasco. I would like to se him get a lower level power 5 or high g5 job and work his way back up. Who would have thought kiffin or sark would be held in such high esteem 5 years ago? It can happen for Herman.

Most of this board wanted Herman. They’ll defend him no matter what. O beat him head to head and won a national championship while going undefeated. I don’t think there’s anymore argument needed.

Some of you are mired in thinking about hypotheticals between the situations at LSU and UT and are missing the more important data that’s in front of you. It’s the trend between Herman’s two head coaching jobs.

Everyone dismissed the man’s flaws at Houston, but they look all the more glaring now after he made the exact same mistakes at UT. His teams consistently played down to the level of their competition every season at both schools and lost games they had absolutely no business losing. When an issue like that follows a coach, it’s either him or his choice of staff. Considering that Herman just overhauled his staff at UT, it looks to me like a big part of that issue with team preparedness and mindset lies with him.

O isn’t perfect in this same regard. However, he certainly showed improvement in 2018 and 2019. But my comments aren’t to excuse O. I just think Herman gets a pass for a lot of shite that he shouldn’t. He’s just another G5 coach who looked great but wasn’t up to making the leap to the big time.

If O didn’t hire Brady then the fans may still want Herman .

It’s always crazy to me how many of the hottest names in coaching end up being busts. The list is endless.

Might have just been the wrong fit for Herman.

The more i see it, the more i realize its not just about being a good coach. it has to be the right fit. The administration, fans, existing players have to buy in. The offensive and defensive philosophies have to fit the type of players that school is able to recruit, the rest of the coaching staff is equally or more important than the HC, and the timing has to be right for all of it. Very few guys (saban, urban, holtz, spurrier to name a few) could be successful anywhere they go. Most have to be in the right situation to have success.

What’s O’s record without burrow? Without Brady? Without Aranda?

I think Herman is a better coach, but he isn't the recruiter Orgeron is, so he wouldn't have gotten Joe Burrow

That's cool, but switch coaches (O at Texas and Herman at LSU) and who wins h2h?

won a national championship while going undefeated.

Now that is legit.
