Have you seen the rookie scale in the NFL

Alabama pays better than that.

Right, because 1st round draft picks are worried about $40k cars.

They had unfinished business from last year. Way unfinished.

You are dead wrong! Bama sells development, with the NFL as the goal. Bama is about “the business decision”. The reason players, who would have left LSU, stay at Bama is that Bama is paying them boatloads of money. They are not staying for Chargers. Bama is paying several hundred thousand dollar each to keep Najee and Devonta.

2012-2019 - Bama recruiting pitch - Win Championships and Graduate (notice all of the SEC Graduate patches they have)
During that time LSU pitched itself as NFLSU in lieu of championships

At this point, LSU spends more time recruiting the player to come to LSU than the player actually playing for LSU. We literally get 1 good year out of each player (usually their soph. year.)

Maybe we should offer seniors a legitimate chance to win a championship every season and then we can try and be Bama. Dudes aren’t interested in foregoing getting paid for Les Miles and Ed Orgeron majority type seasons. This shite isn’t hard.

But that doesn’t mean you ignore the outlier when that outlier is the best at what they do! Would be stupid to ignore it.

What does this mean? They had 5 true juniors (2017 signees) drafted in the top 36 last year. The idea that they keep guys 4 years is false, they just recruited better than anyone ever. You can’t except to duplicate that.

They lost Waddle to injury and didn’t miss a beat you think they would be 5-5 if Harris went to the draft last year?

He wasn’t invited to ceremony. I know he was 5th in votes, but just sayin’. Every player is “up for Heisman”, we normally consider those “invited” as the finalists (I don’t guess there will be an actual ceremony this year). I only point this out because I hate to give any Alabama player credit for anything. Sorry, not sorry.

Alabama first team with 3 of the top 5 in Heisman voting since the 1940s.

I can think of another reason: money

There's zero chance Bama pays better than an nfl team.

This is the ultimate asterisk * Heisman

Seriously they would not have 3 of the top 5 in a normal year.

Good post.

Bama could've lost Harris, Jones, and Smith in addition to Waddle, replaced both coordinators, and they still would've gone undefeated this year.

They have a great pipeline of talent and Saban gives them stability in the midst of coaching turnovers.

It would be great if at least some of our top-shelf talent would stay for 4-years.

But that;s all the more reason Ed needs to nail his OC/DC hires. It's do or die for him.

100% this is it. Saban sells them on coming back and improving the draft stick, he does everything he can to get them everything they need to stay another year.

The amount bama pays these returning seniors is probably well into 7 figures-and Uncle Sam don't know about it.

I've posted several times on this board that bama HAS GOT TO HAVE one hell of a retainer program for their potential draftees to stay 4 years. By the downvotes, the board disagrees. But I bet you I'm right.

This is a question i have pondered the answer to for a long time. Is it money, housing and jobs for parents or more under the table promises? I doubt it's winning another championship or the Heisman since the supreme goal seems to be the NFL and MONEY. If LSU can ever find out i think our fortunes would increase dramatically. Hire a PI...LOL

They probably don't. But I bet they pay enough to have those guys come back to an ELITE team in the natty hunt, and to be the kings on campus for one more year. That has to be very appealing. And it wouldn't shock me if they paid 7 (tax free) figures for their top guys to return.

Jones was supposed to only be a place holder for Bryce Young the 5* freshman QB that will probably be putting up Heisman #s next year or 2022 when a thread thread like this pops up
