Question for y'all.
When I was growing up, we did the gift stealing game in my family and everyone brought nice things and it would go on for hours because everyone was drinking and we didn't have steal limits. It seemed like a great time.
When I got older and went to parties with this game, every so often someone would bring some sort of really stupid cheap gift while everyone else brought nice stuff. I remember at one of them, almost everyone brought nice liquor or a nice gift around $50.. and the very last gift that was opened was this dude's used dog toy.
The person who got it was pissed because they had brought a very nice gift. I think the dude ended up giving that person $50 in cash the next day
So do y'all view the game as silly gifts, regular nice gifts, or do you see it as both and make sure everyone knows which one it is beforehand?

Everyone I've ever been to had silly gag gifts. I've never seen anyone bring something "nice" to one I attended.

Last one I went to someone put a live hamster in a cage wrapped up. Nobody admitted to who did it but the poor girl that picked it on round four got stuck with it for the whole damn game which was about 35 rounds. The person that brought it definitely won the game whoever it was.

See, I've never been to one that was gag gifts. They've all been regular gifts and then there's sometimes 1 person who didn't realize and bought something silly.

Moral of the story, if you bring a dildo to a work White Elephant/Dirty Santa exchange, better bring 2 gifts and wrap them in different paper.

I did the scratch off idea. Had a $10 scratch off, couple $5 offs and 5 or so random dollar ones. Thing is I bought the fake scratch off from Spencer’s that says you win something like $10k, mixed it in with the other cheap ones.
I felt a little bad after because the guy who picked it was a broke kid with maybe $50 to his name. Poor guy thought he was rich for those few minutes.
