I am so done with pro team sports at this point - I am not white / grew up in rural Ohio and know that American Indians are very much supportive and proud of the team name. My father was originally from India before settling here - this atrocious PC stuff is just killing sports....

reminds of LSU's chinese bandits

quote:

The Chinese Bandits were the backup defensive unit on coach Paul Dietzel's LSU Tigers football teams, most notably the 1958 and 1959 teams. The name was also used briefly by the Army Cadets football team during Dietzel's coaching tenure at the U.S. Military Academy. At LSU, they made up the third unit of Dietzel's "three-platoon system." While they lacked experience and talent, the Bandits were notable for their tenacity and toughness. The unit was hugely popular among fans, and has since become part of LSU sports lore.

It's an honor.

Literally 90% of their fan base will hate this. Why is modern life so rubbish, mates?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the name “Indians”. It has never been considered offensive. Somewhere along the line, some PC liberals decided they should be called “Native Americans”. But that doesn’t mean “Indian” is now offensive.

Just like how even though some PC liberal invented the term “African American”, that doesn’t mean “Black” is now offensive.

Spot on.

This is absolutely absurd.

Exactly. It's not like these teams were trying to name themselves after something weak or worthy of ridicule, yet that appears to be the stance of anybody who believes these nicknames are offensive. Who are the real racists here?

The majority never gets their way in this situation because they always roll over and take it.

The lunatics control the media, academia, and big tech, so despite their small numbers they hold all the power.

The only way it actually stops is if all the fans in Cleveland who hate this legitimately stop supporting the team. If they are playing in front of completely empty stands for a few years and nobody in Cleveland watches MLB at all anymore.

Bitching about it on the internet isn't enough, people need to actually vote with their wallets.

I find it hilarious when companies destroy 100+ year old brands so they can appear woke. Those soy boys have never purchased or watched your product and won't after you change your name. The only thing it does is piss off your paying customers who will stop buying or watching your product.

On a side note, does this mean that Major League will now have a disclaimer before the movie telling us that it is racist?

Is this just another ploy to move the team? I don't think northern Ohioans are going to take to this very well.

Florida State Seminoles will never drop their name. Know why? Because Florida ain't a woke liberal shithole like Cleveland Ohio is.

I'm telling ya, if this cancels the movie "Major League", i will never watch a baseball game again. You just know the liberal blowhards will be dying to get rid of the movie once they change the name. Just thinking about that happening gets me infuriated.
