Philadelphia is the location
quote:
A man who stopped for late-night takeout in a Northeast Philadelphia eatery found himself in the middle of a robbery. Police said he fired the fatal shot that stopped the crime. It happened at around 10:30 Sunday night at the Wingstop in the 2100 block Cottman Avenue.
quote:
That's when the robber pointed a gun at that customer and demanded his cell phone," said Small, who added that the 27-year-old customer quickly decided to fight back. "(He) pulled his gun (and) fired one shot at the perpetrator, striking him in the neck," Small said.

This is pretty much how I pictured the story

A cell phone is not worth another human's life.

This qualifies as a feel good story for Killadelphia. Usually it's some innocent bystander getting shot by stray bullets.

Here is another feel good story for the Holidays:

Agreed, a cell phone isn't worth a persons life. The value of that transaction was established when the criminal made the decision that an innocent persons phone had more value than said persons life, and pointed a gun at him. The intended victim now has to make the decision, who's life is more valuable, mine or his, the phone isn't a factor in his mind. It's life or death, who's to say the criminal would take the phone and shoot the guy anyway, It's happened to a friend of mine, robber held them up and took his wallet, then shot him in the gut for good measure. My buddy survived but had to have some serious surgery. I don't feel bad at all for these bums. If you pull a gun on someone you better be prepared to receive a bullet as well.

quote:Quote of the day right here.
News of the incident garnered a strong reaction from residents in the area. "The guy that was robbing the place deserved what he got, in my opinion," said Marius Maiellano of Olney. "Pull a gun on somebody, expect to get shot."

Ammo prices kept him from doing the double tap

Police said the suspect, a 53-year-old man
You know what that means when they leave out the description
ETA: I guess he's dead so it doesn't matter, but still

There will legitimately be people who will say armed robbery isn’t a death penalty crime and they should have just given up the phone. The world of view of some people is so skewed it’s impossible to comprehend.

I think it's always useful for those of us who carry to have serious discussions about whether you'd make the same decision or not.
And in that circumstance "whether it's worth it" is a valid consideration.
But that's "worth it" from our perspective (what we value, our safety, protection of others, etc.) not "worth it" from a societal perspective and weighing the crime vs. the life of the perpetrator.
