How would that impact college football?
I think I could pull for LSU just as hard if we got back to real student athletes.
Take some of the money out of the college game.
Football has fallen off the cliff as much as basketball yet but this opt in, opt out, transfer portal, pay to play crap is taking us further and further down the tube I think.

Then you would have more players leaving to get into the mill for a pro career.

Yes.
Draft 4 & 5 star players out of HS & put them in the minors just like MLB does. Pay them a decent salary while they work toward the NFL where they get big money.
Take the 2 & 3 star players & develop them over 4/5 seasons into solid college players. They leave with an education whether they make the league or not.
Would all but eliminate recruiting scandals.

Like watch?
No.
Our football would be worse.
Take more talent.
Has it?
Did you not enjoy last year?
No.

No, covid madness has shown me other more rewarding ways to entertain myself. If anything, i’m watching less football every year.

I wouldn't watch it.
I only watch college football because of the connection to the universities. Take that away, and it's just a poor product.

Yea for some reason I don't think guys will be too excited to play for way less than they would get in the big leagues while still taking the same punishment and knocking years off of their earning potential. Oh, wait. Disregard.

This didn’t work with NFL Europe. The AAF and XFL collapsed. The CFL is a waste of time. Why would it be any different now? This isn’t like the G-League in hoops, playing in small venues with 15 man rosters with a small staff. Football costs big money and even with the NFL behind it, a dev league will lose money.
Why would the NFL do this if they get it all for free right now?

What would the pay scale be?
If it's anything comparable to the NBA and MLB "minor leagues", you're taking a pretty big pay cut by foregoing college for that type of money.
Not to mention if you get hurt, you at least still have the scholarship to complete your education.

If by support you mean spend money on it, probably not. If by support you mean watch it, still probably not.

Why would the NFL pay for player development when they are already developed for free? Minor league football wouldn’t make money without the fan fare that universities bring

No. College football is one of the pure sports left. Money and greed ending it though

No. It would be bad football and they would be the in between teams. There's a reason college football is successful and that has to do with the loyalty of alumni.
There's a reason other startup football leagues have crashed and burned. Of all the leagues to start up, the USFL had the best model with good players. Even a few hall of famers. The Houston Gamblers introduced the Run n Shoot and were innovative for the time. The qb was Jim Kelly. Still, it folded.
If the NFL offered these guys say 150K to play, there are colleges that pay considerably more to the studs. It would further water down the product.

CFB is the minor leagues for the NFL.

No, college football is minor league football and I like it that way.

I would not "support it", but I'm okay with that idea. Let's have university athletics go back to featuring actual student athletes.
Posted on 11/30/20 at 10:15 am to JDGTiger
Yes. Student athletes rather than an NFL farm system.

Why would the NFL spend money on a minor league when they can just have it for free with college football?
