You're really upset Terrace Marshall doesn't wanna risk millions of dollars to play for free on a team that sucks?
You realize with this mindset every single projected 1st rounder should quit their team as soon as they're eliminated from postseason play.
And yet somehow, that doesn't happen anywhere as much as it does here. fricking weird right?

And this is the sad sack attitude that’s taken us from 4 year players who are a part of their community and loved the rest of their lives to guys who leave early then go bankrupt within 5-10 years. You retards will never understand real life decisions and consequences.

I support Terrace Marshall's right to exit a football team that plays like shite.
Thank you.
Thank you.

If you were poor, you would 100% quit your job tomorrow to make millions of dollars for yourself and your family.
His character has been fantastic as long as I've watched him play. If he goes out and gets hurt in his next game, you'll make a post about how unfortunate it is and go on about your life. But I'm sure he would feel good that jmon on tigerdroppings isn't questioning his character.
This young man has an opportunity (THAT HE EARNED) that VERY few people ever see. To not take it would be irresponsible.

What in the frick?
This is exactly what OP is talking about.
Why do you feel entitled to his time here at LSU?
You are literally asking a 20 year old to play 3 more games and risk his livelihood. A livelihood that will barely be improved (if at all) by playing in those games.
Only retards in this thread are people judging a 20 year old for taking the bird in the hand for him and his family.

You’re right that he doesn’t owe us anything. But his peers do it all the time. You are judged by your competition.
Is it okay to appreciate and respect all the athletes that don’t quit and keep playing over the few that do quit?
Posted on 11/29/20 at 8:38 pm to TigerReb7
No they owe it to their fricking teammates bitch. He’s a quitter like all the other LSU players who quit. frick em there is no excuse to quit after this much time.

It's your right to stop giving LSU Athletics money, but LSU football is not gonna stop making money anytime soon, and let's be honest, you're still gonna watch the Bama game this weekend. So go ahead and keep believing he owes you shite because you may or may not have given money to the Athletic dept.
I didn't say anything about not watching LSU anymore. But if they do what the Saints did, I surely would stop watching.
But you missed the point entirely. That, or you ignored it. You stated that these athletes owe us nothing. And my point was very clear: College and professional sports only exist because of the fans. People play games in their backyards every day and they don't make a dime. Because it's a freaking game. But one day, a long, long time ago, somebody had the idea of putting together organized sports, where teams were formed, and people would pay to be entertained. Whenever there wasn't enough support, those sports, or individual leagues, died out.
Fast forward to the present, and people have settled on what they like. That, and only that, gives athletes any value. WE make sports a profitable business. WE make free college scholarships possible. It doesn't matter how good you are, if the university makes nothing from it's fans, they don't have scholarships to give away.
So if any of them share your sentiment that they don't owe the fans to give it everything they have and show enough loyalty to at least finish the season, instead of quitting in the middle of it, then they should consider what I've said and remember who pays their ticket.

it is very selfish of you if you are angry about someone trying to protect their future, especially when the team isn't even .500.
I don't wish any ill will on him at all but the timing is weird. We're 3/4 of the way through the season, he speaks to his team as being a leader and the next week he bounces? I don't understand that.
I expected him to leave early but not when there are 3 games left. There's nothing selfish on my part about it.
I honestly think there are some other factors that contributed to his decision. Stuff behind the scenes.
I don't think he's scared of playing Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss, crap, he played them last year.
It's like there are other things that made him make this decision. Has O lost the team? Does he not trust O? Who knows but I don't think it's simply preserving himself for the NFL. If that were the case, he would've opted out before the season started, like Chase did. The timing is just weird. That's what bothers me the most.
There seems to be a major disconnect with a majority of the players and the coaches.

This is so true. I dont know where is a perfect spot to draw the line when it comes to random grown adults putting their personal pride into a teenage/twenties ball game outcome, but some people need a serious reality check.

You don't walk out on your team right before playing Bama, Florida and Politically Correct Massa Wife.
That shows what's he's made of.
If I'm an NFL GM or HC, there's no way I want a quitter on my team. Let somebody else draft him. He's not playing for me.
All the Moronic Pump Worshippers that are defending him (And all the others of his Ilk) have never played a down of organized football and are ignorant of the "Team" concept in sports.
I for one have had about enough of this "NFL-LSU 3 years and Out" BS.
Get somebody in here that's going to promote and develop the program to the maximun benefit of the LSU FOOTBALL PROGRAM winning SEC & National Championships. (Like the HC's of the Top 2 consistently dominant college football programs are doing) The NFL will take care of itself at the end of 4 years, but that should not be the selling point to recruits.....

Quitting in the middle of a season is a bad look no matter the reason. Hopefully he goes on to have a great career but when LSU needed him most he quit.

And we owe colleges nothing. But, when I donate thousands a year on top of buying tickets, I expect to see a good product on the field. TM was offered and received a scholarship with the intent of him completing his degree while contributing to the team for the duration. He failed to honor his side of the deal. Call it business decision all you want, the kid is a quitter. Coach O created a culture that allows that type of selfishness.
Does TM owe me? No. But, LSU admin owes me the best effort to produce a good product. They have failed.

But, they owe their tea mates and the program a lot...
Posted on 11/30/20 at 5:15 am to TigerReb7
I disagree, but perhaps you are right. Then it follows that we owe them nothing either.

Really?
As a longtime LSU fan and supporter, I don't see things getting much better in the immediate future. In fact, I see the NCAA setting up a field office in Baton Rouge.
It makes me wonder if Marshall "opting out" has anything to do with the USA Today story.

quote:LOL if you think top athletes like Marshall don't contribute to LSU making way more money than 100k. Nobodys shelling out thousands of dollars to see just anyone, people pay to see top athletes, which Marshall is. Marshall earned his scholarship money in 2019 alone by being a large contributor to the greatest team of all time.
Maybe he doesn't owe the fans "nothing" but he owes LSU close to 100K

This is the most ridiculous post I've ever seen.
You act like these players are out begging for money for new pads and the fans provide it because we feel sorry for them. We watch these games because they provide entertainment.
They butter their own bread by having talent. They are able to make these decisions because they have leverage.

At what point is it acceptable to make that business decision?
One game?
Three?
Twelve?
If you accept losing them early then you accept having a bad team because a good team has good players.
As fans, why would we want to lose our best players before it’s time?

I want to be mad that somebody quit on their team. But then I think about athletes who come from impoverished childhood‘s who were just months away from making millions of dollars. And lost it all to injury.
How can I be angry at one of them for wanting to avoid the risk when it’s clear we are no longer competing for a bowl game or a championship this year
TM Gave us everything he had last year and delivered a national championship. I’ll be grateful for his service to this University
