I would say his teammates let him down with their poor play this year.

I don't think he owes me anything

Got more than I deserve. I hope he makes generational money.

play 3 meaningless games

I don’t care about Marshall enough to get into that right now, but I completely disagree with this “meaningless games” nonsense. If they are gonna go out there in LSU uniforms to compete against a team with different uniforms on, if they are gonna keep score with a winner being declared, and if the wins or losses are going on each teams’ records, then it’s fricking meaningful. Even if the goals of championships are gone, the games, the competitions, in and of themselves are fricking meaningful. I’ll echo Herm:

You Play....To Win....The Game....HELLO?!!

There is an innate, inherent, MEANINGFUL value in the very act of competition.

Remember when everyone was outraged because Fournette didn't play in a bowl game? It seems like that was Pandora's box opening the floodgates.

I’m perfectly fine with being selfish

I get nothing from these players besides satisfaction when they play good and LSU wins

They don’t send me a commission or royalty when they go pro

if you think top athletes like Marshall don't contribute to LSU making way more money than 100k.

How much money exactly did Marshall bring in to LSU?

When the fans quit showing up and the big donners quit giving, we will see who owes who.
Its symbiotic.

This is the most ridiculous post I've ever seen.

Then you don't read much.

quote:

You act like these players are out begging for money for new pads and the fans provide it because we feel sorry for them

It has nothing to do with feeling sorry for them, and that's a dumb statement. It has everything to do with sports providing ZERO value. The world can function without sports. Athletes do not provide a useful service, whatsoever. Which brings me this part of your comment:

quote:

We watch these games because they provide entertainment.

They butter their own bread by having talent. They are able to make these decisions because they have leverage.

Yes, we watch because it's entertainment. That's exactly my point. We can be equally entertained by a whole new set of players who would actually care about what they do. We can also watch the games from home. It's free. Fans can stop going to games, if players find our "demands" so offensive.

And then they'll all see who butters their bread. Talent doesn't do it. Being good at football doesn't guarantee you anything, if it weren't for the fans paying outrageous prices to go see them. And they don't go to see Terrace Marshall, or Ja'marr Chase, or any one guy. They go to see their team, and whoever the players are, is whoever they are. If they don't want to hear the opinions of the paying customers, then sports should be free. And then there would be no sports.

It doesn't matter if you like what I said. It's a fact.

I dont know where is a perfect spot to draw the line when it comes to random grown adults putting their personal pride into a teenage/twenties ball game outcome, but some people need a serious reality check.

So you are deriding football fans for being emotionally invested in a football team on a football forum? We enjoy football, have pride in our university and want them to be successful, not be a bunch of selfish quitters that throw their teammates to the wolves.

Pretty soon "scholarships" are going to have to look like contracts. Not only for paying players (which is inevitable) , but also having ramifications for failure to uphold the player side of the contract (opting out, declining bowl invites, etc).

Otherwise, why would Stingley play another snap for LSU? Or any other NFL talent for that matter. It even extends to basketball with Ben Simmons declining the NIT bid, or a stud pitcher not wanting to put any more innings in for LSU if there's no post season implications. We havent seen the baseball example yet, but its going to happen at some point.

Correct...maybe

It's a business decision. We hear this over and over again.

To go to the NFL draft early - It does not always work out. (examples upon req.)

Does valuing commitment, meeting your obligations, finishing what you started, mean anything to anyone? Yourself, your current employer, or you potential employer.

Character matters. Lack of it always eventually shows. NFL Gen. Managers I am sure think so.

Let's consider some more factors.

What is best for the young man?
Average length of career in the NFL?
Potential earnings as football player? Not everyone is OBJ.
The Math involved in your first contract is probably your last contract.

Is free room and board, food, and a college education worth anything?

It is a complicated issue...

The debate continues

You really need to look up the definition of fact.

What you said is actually a pretty baseless opinion.

They owe us nothing? Ok. Let all the fans stop spending millions of combined dollars propping up kids games and paving the way for spoiled brats to make a living playing said games. When they end up digging ditches and flipping burgers with their no free scholarships, and no sports to play, because those pesky "entitled" fans stopped paying money to support those sports, they can go ahead and tell us they owe us nothing. Because only then would they be right. But if they want all of the same opportunities that are afforded to them now, they better remember who butters their bread. And you better remember that, too, before you make another ignorant post about this subject.

good luck trying to attract the best talent to lsu with that mindset...you’ll get the recruits that want to be at lsu, they just won’t be very talented..

He's only cheating himself. Every time you play the game, you add to your tape. Every game is part of the job interview process when you are trying to make it to the NFL.

Not playing these games, is going to reflect negatively on his future employers. If you are so scared of getting hurt, take out an insurance policy. It's what they are there for. Not to mention the image of just being a selfish pussy that would not finish what you started with your teammates. Marshall seems like a guy that lives in his own bubble. And he's going to find out, that his reputation means something. And say he wants to find a job after football, I'm sure some LSU alums would love to give him a job but when you quit on the team, that reflects on your character and you aren't getting that job.

What if every LSU football player who had the possibility of being drafted decided to not play their final X amount of games. It's a farce. This kid is just dumb and got some bad advice I think.
