Thinking about doing a long weekend there in November. We have some airline vouchers so we’d fly from NOLA to Austin then drive over. Is most things open there? Give me some suggestions on things to do there.

Enchanted Rock is a cool place to hike around. There are some neat caves in the top.

The wineries most all use grapes they didn't grow on site.

I usually stay away from fredericksburg as it is usually over run with weekend wine tourists. If you are into wine you will probably enjoy all the wineries.....I think most are open now. There are some nice drives through the hill country and nice little towns such as Comfort, Kerrville and Boerne. Highs cafe in comfort is a good spot and there crab cakes are delicious. Comfort pizza is real good too but you have to order a day in advance. Cibolo Creek brewing in Boerne has good beer and really good food. I also like Dodging Duck for food and beer in Boerne. If you want to hit any state parks like enchanted rock or perdenales falls, get reservations now. They may still be limiting the number of people and they fill up fast even in normal times. Luchenbach is just a few minutes from fredericksburg and they are having live music outside now.

Rent a driver and hit 3 wineries during the day. End the day in town.

Eat at Ottos. Stay at Hoffman Haus if you can get reservation. Go out to Alamo Springs Cafe for amazing burgers.

I spent a whole day at the Nimitz Museum.

Would it be better to fly into Austin or San Antonio? Looks like it’s a little over an hour either way

We drove in from Austin. Easy and pretty. Can't offer an opinion beyond that. Fredericksburg is a neat town/area. Lots of fun there.

Forgot to mention, it's legal to drink booze while walking down main street.

How do their wines compare to Napa? I know it won’t be the same but would they stack up against some of the lower end California wines or should one go in with low expectations?

I think the best wineries are William Chris (a little out from Fredericksburg) and Grape Creek. I would suggest reservations at both places. They have very good wines. All William Chris wines are Texas grapes, but many are grown in the High Plains area (near Lubbock). Grape Creek has a cellar tour, if you've never done that. It's not a real cellar, like Napa, but you can see where it's stored, how it's made, and learn a bit. Everything is pretty much open, but you may only be able to buy a bottle and drink instead of taste without a reservation. My daughter and a friend went a few weeks ago. She says it was busy but not as much as this time of the year normally would be.

My wife and i have been twice. Last time we ended up at the brewery and had a very nice time chatting with folks from all over Texas.
Too many bachelorette parties. The buses are full of drunk chicks and most of them are fatties.
It’s a cool town but don’t plan on spending more than 2 nights there.

You're not going to find any highly impressive buildings or scenery like in Napa, or great tours of the vineyard grounds, but I was pleasantly surprised by the wines. I had some I really, really enjoyed. Especially as the day drug on. Ha!!

Hit up Fredericksburg Brewery, right there on the main drag.
Yes...it's not just the old Nimitz Museum, which is in their old family home. It's expanded into becoming the National Museum of the Pacific War.
While not as big, its exhibits are on the same level as the WWII Museum in NOLA.
And as others have said, there are several German Biergartens/Restaurants around.
It's a great town to wander up and down the strip in the evening.

I'm not sure why this has 2 downvotes. Ottos is easily the best restaurant in Fredericksburg.

the wine shuttle from barron's creek inn is worth it, hard to get an uber sometimes. go to heb on 16 and get a cooler of snacks.
fyi the wineries are about to go to winter schedules where they close earlier around sunset/6pm. so you will need to get an earlier start
bucs is a shithole now. go to macs bbq if you are younger, crossroads if you are older for late night party
cultures if you want to watch a sporting event
ladybird golf course is pretty decent
there is an off track betting place where you can play the belmont empire 6
