The Trump campaign has boasted that it knocks on more than a million doors a week, a claim that's impossible to independently verify. In sharp contrast, the Biden campaign had ditched a ground game for virtual outreach, citing Covid-19 concerns — even though academic research has routinely concluded door-to-door canvassing is the "most consistently effective and efficient method of voter mobilization." Only just now has the Biden campaign decided to restart its in-person voter contacts in some battleground states.

Of the six states Trump won by less than 5 points in 2016, four — Arizona, Florida, North Carolina and Pennsylvania — permit voters to register by party. In all four states, voter registration trends are more robust for the GOP than four years ago.

In Florida, Republicans added a net 195,652 registered voters between this March's presidential primary and the end of August, while Democrats added 98,362 and other voters increased 69,848. During the same period in 2016, Republicans added a net 182,983 registrants, Democrats 163,571 and others 71,982. In 2016, Trump prevailed in Florida by just 112,911 votes.

Even in heavily blue Miami-Dade County, where Hillary Clinton beat Trump by 29 points in 2016, Republicans added a net 22,986 additional voter registrations between March and the end of August, compared to 11,142 for Democrats.

quote:

In Pennsylvania, Republicans added a net 135,619 voters between this June's primary and the final week of September, while Democrats added 57,985 and other voters increased 49,995. Between the April 2016 primary and the November 2016 general election, Republicans added 175,016 registrants, Democrats added 155,269 and others 118,989. That fall, Trump won the state by just 44,292 votes.

Trump’s insane ground game is his secret weapon and none of these new voters will be on a list to for pollsters to call. I bet 95+% of them vote. Biden’s lack of ground game is a massive problem for him and it’s going to show up in the election turnout.

It's how Hillary lost. I know a district manager from the last time that directed the ground work in one of the battleground states that Trump won. They saw no opposition that they would have considered a threat.

It's an even bigger problem when you see how low enthusiasm is for Biden and that is not going to change no matter how many TV and radio ads they throw up in those states.

Im in central Florida (Orange County) and have a neighbor that works for the Trump campaign. She claims they are knocking on 6500 doors per day, 7 days a week now. She's lost 15 pounds.

She's responsible for 2 counties, Polk & Lake.

If Trump is even doing half the ground game numbers he claims, while Biden is doing nothing, Biden will be crushed.

They will write books about how terrible his campaign handled this election.

Biden’s name is on the campaign but he isn’t the one running it. He is a figurehead placed out there so Bernie can’t finish running the rest of the party into the ground.

The Dems’ philosophy is “If we are going to frick things up, we’ll do it OUR way!”

if the GOP/Trump has this sort of ground game, there is NO reason why they shouldn't harvest the frick out of ballots in swing states where it's legal

It’s all about the mail in ballots and vote harvesting for the Ds. That has become obvious.
They’ll immediately take those swing states to the courts. They are already setting that up.

Democrats don't need to register to vote.

Interesting to see an article like this from a platform that hates Trump.

Yeah ok, totally not due to the lack of enthusiasm.

This is a significant number given how tight this state was in 2016. It could literally determine the outcome.

Or ensure a blowout.

The difference is that Bernie would actually have a chance at winning.

Ground game wins elections. Obama did so well because he vastly outperformed Romney in the ground game with his GOTV

Today, Trump's voter registration edge alone wouldn't be nearly sufficient to offset the leads Biden is posting in polls of Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and probably Arizona. But if the race tightens or there's a substantial polling error, Trump's superior base growth could make a difference in a few tight states — and call into question why the Biden campaign chose to forgo hitting the streets

I love how much confidence these clowns have in polls

Polk went from having more democrats in 2016 to having 10K more republicans now. Your neighbor is doing A great job . If this is because of new voters then Trump is going to kill it on Polk county . He won by 50K in 2016 in Polk so 2020 should be great for him in Polk.

This. The Trump campaign needs to execute the ballot harvesting game better than the Dems. I can see fights break out between GOP and Dem ballot harvesters at swing state nursing homes...
