Name one QB that with better stats than Brennan after a first time start?

You seriously can't tell me you watched that game and thought he did good?
Difference between Brennan and every other LSU QB in history is Brennan got to start in a pass first offense and the others didn't. He had decent stats Saturday but that doesn't change the fact that he didn't look good.

Tommy Hodson - 15/22, 193 Yards, 2 TDs
He did that as a Freshman, upsetting #7 Texas A&M

Why you guys do things like this I will never understand. He had a lot of issues in the first game. Most people are not saying he needs to hit the road already and we have no idea what he’ll become. Better or worse. Because we’ve seen both happen. Just because he threw for 300 plus yards does not mean he’ll become a great qb. Just because he looked lost at times and didn’t read the field well does not mean he’ll never get it together and improve.
Why you guys get offended by people calling out his short comings in the first game I will never know.

And for one thing... if you (not you specifically) are not going to count the “garbage time” INT at the end of the game, then you shouldn’t be counting his garbage TD pass either.

Stats? Let’s talk wins and losses?

I can tell by this post that you looked at the stat line and didn’t actually watch the game.
Yes you may have been in a room with the game on the TV, but you weren’t actually WATCHING.

Brennan's QBR quarterback rating was a paltry 32.2 tied for second to last in the SEC. Their metric calculated that his performance was 4.8 points below what an average quarterback would have done.

So many first starts were against shitty opponents.

His stats look good, but he didn't play good. On the other hand if our defense could've gotten off the field on 3rd down we would've won the game.

He was terrible, period. For a guy that has been in the system for 3 years now, he was awful. Ive never seen so many missed wide open receivers.

The main question that needs to be asked is can he improve enough to win a championship in the next 2 seasons ?

How many previous LSU offenses gave a QB this many throwing options?
Not an apples to apples comparison.

Ryan Perrilloux (freshman) 2007 La Tech
298 yards 3 TDs 1 INT, 37 yards rushing
Matt Flynn 2005 beat #10 Miami 40-3
196 yards 2 TDs 0 INTs, 39 yards rushing
Herb Tyler (freshman) 1995 beat North Texas 49-7
208 yards 2 TDs 0 INTs, 10 rushing yards 1 TD
Danny Etling 2016 beat Miss State 23-20
213 yards 1 TD 0 INTs, 23 rushing yards
Tommy Hodson (freshman) 1986 beat #7 Texas A&M 35-17
193 yards 2 TDs
Look, Brennan's statline in vacuum looked great and it's easy to say his first INT he had his arm hit by a defender and his 2nd was a hail mary. However, anyone who watched that game could see he did not have control of the offense. It wasn't all his fault as the line did a poor job, the backs couldn't get the running game open, and the receivers dropped some passes. However, to try to argue that because it was his first start (in his 4th year in the pogram) and no one else has thrown for that many yards that it was somehow a good game for him is just dishonest. He threw 46 passes, the 5th most in a game in LSU history. Burrow did that last year once...against Clemson and threw for 463 yards and 4 TDs with no picks. Offenses are completely different now, so pulling out a total yardage stat doesn't mean the same thing across different eras.
That all said, it wasn't his fault we lost the game either. It took most our team not doing their jobs for that to happen.

Now go back and watch all the games and count how many open receivers each one not only missed, but didn’t even see.

64 years of following LSU football on the radio and live. Tommy Hodson had the best overall 4 years of any quarterback in LSU history. Burrow was great for 1 year and good for another. Replace him with Hodson and I believe we see damn near the same results. In this offense with his mobility, he would have been brilliant.
As far as first start games, Hodson had a great first start as a redshirt freshman. However, as a junior Ryan Perriloux in that first start was simply outstanding considering the magnitude of that game. He could have been great! He also was a reason why football suffered for as long as it did due to lack of continuity when he was released.

There were quite a few that won there first outing with the big individual stats. The only one that counts is the W-L column. That being said, the youngster played a pretty good game, especially considering the OL protecting issues. He certainly did not “suck” as the consensus posts.
He will only get better with each game imo. The game should slow down, decisions will be faster & the chemistry with the WRs will improve. One man’s opinion, but we need to run the football a lot more to take some of the heat off the QB. The hype says we have the horses, well rideum’,
Will he ever be JB? Will anyone ever be JB at LSU? Give the kid a break & get behind him. He has all the raw talent to be a winner.

Brennan has a rough game. It’s a fact. That doesn’t mean he’s going to have a rough game next week or the week after.
