Fun stuff. Our A-10 guys up here used to party hard after blowing up Canada in the middle of the night. Usually coming home from a mission. Luckily the base commander (COL) was the instigator.

I agree; it is ignorant. In addition, the French are historically much better allies with the U.S. than the Germans (probably 2nd only to the British).

I get the joke - but it doesn’t reflect reality.
The German Air Force is run down and their fleet is marginally airworthy.
The French by comparison have the most capable armed forces in Europe. They’re the only power in Europe, aside from perhaps Poland, that is serious about defense.

Germany does run the EU, but if we’re playing make believe, and they went to war again, the Germans wouldn’t be able to defend themselves from the French.

The resistance was largely talk, in truth. They didn’t do much during the war.
They were also led by the French Communist Party. The joke is that they hung out at cafes for four years, drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes.
I would also point to Dien Bien Phu and the French performance in Algeria. Or their constant efforts in French West Africa, they’re always deployed, and fighting someone.
