Vera's bbq is the only place in the country allowed to cook barbacoa the original way, this article explains it. They are grandfathered in. It's a pretty unique experience. The tongue and mixta are good. That's all I got.

Land is super cheap in Brownsville. You should pick up a few acres while you're there.

It's windy, was there last year and the wind blew the entire time, never let up. It blows to the north, a lot of the trees have grown into leaning that direction from the wind.

I've spent some time in Brownsville as my wife's family is from there. Surprisingly safe city being right on the border. AMAZING Mexican food. The only white people you will see are Northerners over 70 who have a winter home in the area. 90% Hispanic population. South Padre Island is about 20 miles away & Port Isabel near South Padre has some good seafood spots.
