That has to be up there with one of the worst drafts in history. Whole lot of busts on that list

Anthony Bennett might be the worst draft pick in any sport ever.

Otto Porter is one of the most beta players of all time. Scared of his own shadow and scared of shooting. Talented whenever he decided to play though.

Still the fourth best player on that list, after Giannis, McCollum, and Oladipo. I guess some would rate Adams higher.

it was known as a bad draft at the time

hence why a mediocre prospect like bennett could go #1

this does strengthen the argument that giannis should have been gambled on earlier. people forget how raw and unknown he was

go look up his "highlights" for draft night. he was playing YMCA-level scrubs

Bennett was gonna make the rockets last year but hurt himself. He was shooting like 45% from 3 in the g league. Curious if they will give him another shot.

Giannis was getting 10 points a game in the Greek Second Division. For contrast, Luka was MVP of the top division in Spain which is the best domestic league in Europe

That draft had Tim Hardaway, Glen Rice, and Iverson.

Hawks drafted at 16 and had told Giannis they would take him if he was there. Coach Bud could have had him years earlier

Reminds me of Poku this year. Playing in basically the same league in Rec League gyms against rec league players.

Obviously Poku is nowhere near the athlete Giannis is. I’m just talking about the film and the challenge to evaluate against that level of competition.

Yea Not drafting Giannis early isn’t really a miss based on the info that was available at the time.

Easy to look back in hindsight, but he was a major gamble. NBA drafts are littered with athletic freaks who never put it together. Let’s not even mention the fact that Giannis went through an insane body transformation that nearly every other lanky, yet athletic player never comes close to achieving.

Not just that, but if you asked any GM what was the absolute miracle best case scenario for Giannis, it would have been about 1/10th of what he is today.

Yeah plus when he came out he was essentially a completely different player. Didn’t he have a late growth spurt after being drafted?

If I recall correctly right around the All-Star break in 2016 is when they switched him from playing strictly as a PF and let him take a point forward role and he started his real growth.
