Rourke had 8 professional bouts going 6 wins (5 by KO) 0 losses and 2 draws.
He did fight "tomato cans" and never anyone of any real talent in the sport. His opponents combined win, loss and draw record was a dismal 39-82-4.
I'll give him credit for doing the training to get into shape to get into the ring and for actually getting into the ring to fight, but beyond that, it was no great shakes in the sport of pugilism.
And yes, as far as I know he claimed the surgery was due to his boxing and some damage he took while doing so.

Yeah, I'm just saying I did a quick search and it appears this was making news back in February of 2018. I'm guessing he mostly stayed out of the lens afterwards but a few pics got out.
