Agreed. I can't for the life of me get what all the complaining is about with this project. Government street looks about 1000x nicer than it ever has. If people don't want the slower pace to get downtown, just jump one street over to Florida. I seriously don't get it.

Government Street served more of the SE part of the city who were heading to and from Downtown.
And Florida is not the next street over. Look at a map of Downtown,
You have Florida then Convention then N Blvd. a bunch of small streets then Government St. People use the East/West street depending where they work, etc. Just saying everyone should use Florida makes no sense. If it was better for them they would use it now.

Yes and no. You’d think that a capital city with a major SEC university in a part of the city that they’re gentrifying would be a successful concept. It’s really bizarre that this thing didn’t work. At least in my opinion.

Some thrive, some are ghost towns.

I actually read a good article on them last night, in reference to a few of the NOLA ones.

The Troubling Economics of Food Halls

It is pretty long, but the gist was that the money spent opening the stand and then the large % you have to pay the market, plus increase labor costs due to having to follow their rules as far as operating hours, made it hard to turn a real profit if you're not slammed busy all the time.

I don't think BR had the operating hours issues, though -- they were allowed to make their own hours.

I found that article while looking for one I read a year or so ago that was much better. It was basically outlining all of the external factors you need for a food hall to succeed. I'm not finding it now.

A lot of people in BR are resistant to change, which is a main reason why BR continues to be one of the least attractive cities in the country for people to relocate to.

North Blvd can, and does, serve mostly the same purpose.

Ha ha ha, yes...North. Y'all, I'm so tired today. I suppose that proves my point. There are myriad ways to get downtown. The biggest complaint I've heard about the Government project is that it will make it too hard to get downtown. It's just not that complicated.

Oh, and the complaints about the traffic circles in BR. You would think they're asking us to walk through lava and crocodiles.

Three of the major tenants\vendors were leaving when their leases were up this summer. When Covid hit, my understanding is the owner of White Star, used it to break the lease with the developer, because those tenants had not been replaced.

For the love of God, please vote this woman out of office. Baton Rouge can’t take four more years of her.

That's going to be difficult because she has the big money movers-and-shakers of Baton Rouge bankrolling her. Some of them are alleged "Republicans."

You seem to be very close to the situation. Are you the developer?

Just because a vendor leaves doesn't mean they don't have others lined up to come in, especially if they were successful vendors who were able to grow into their own standalone concepts. However if I'm one of those new vendors planning to come in, and COVID happens, I bet that is a contract I am wanting to get out of.

Yep, Main Street Market downtown still gets plenty of traffic.

Biden already said he’s going to end it. It will go away if you just elect him.

North Blvd stops after Foster. It’s not nearly as long as the Government St/Jefferson Hwy 73 corridor of the Florida St corridor.

There are reasons people don’t use it as much as Governnent and Florida.

And the stretch of Government before you hit that point is mostly residential. Extremely easy to take Government until you can jump up to North. I live in Jefferson/Corporate. Do it anytime the interstate is backed up.
